Mid-MO Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 My dad fishes a lot of rivers in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas for smallmouth (clear water). He uses a spinning reel with 6-8 # test on it usually. What would be the best kind of line for him? I don't ever use anything but baitcasters with 8-20 # test on lakes so I'm out of my element here. I'd like to find something with low memory (a must for spinning reels I'd guess), low visibility (fishing in clear water), and abrasion resistant (constantly in rocks). Fluorocarbon would give me everything but the low memory. I'm guessing it is going to need to be a copolymer. Any suggestions? Thanks Quote
carySE406 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Yo-zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft sounds perfect for you. It's a copolymer that is very abrasion resistant and very low memory. I think it comes in green too, but I'd get the clear. Oh ya, the #6 test is way better than the #8 and it's breaking strength is much higher than it is rated. IMO it is the best line for a spinning reel out there. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0030185119276a&type=product&cmCat=Search_Results_NYR&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=yo+zuri+hybrid+ultra+soft&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=yo+zuri+hybrid+ultra+soft&noImage=0 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 I've been using Vanish Transition Gold for two seasons now. Works for me. But I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses opposing this viewpoint here. My suggestion would be for you to try this first. Then spend the extra bucks on the higher end lines if it doesn't work for you. However, I think it will . Quote

Fish Man Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 When it comes to mono the only line worht fishing is Sufix siege, great line i use the 8# smoke green and its absoluty amazing, out fo every line ive fished its got the lowest memory, and very abrasion resistant ive been able pull up sticks, marsh (whatever you call it) , had it tangled in trees and still been able to fish it without fearing it will break, never broken on me other than a bad knot Quote

What is he using now and what is happening? The implication here is that he has to change lines because of problems. There are numerous lines with low enough memory for spinning. I've had recent personal experience with Original Stren, Trilene XL and Sensation. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted December 23, 2007 Super User Posted December 23, 2007 Another vote for Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft. I spooled two reels with it last year, using them on medium powered rods for plastics work, and fell in love. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 23, 2007 Super User Posted December 23, 2007 6lb P-Line Floroclear has worked great for me. Quote
JigNBig Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 I use P-line CX Premium. Its fluorocarbon coated copolymer. I use it for everything from drop shotting to t-rigging. I LOVE it and i think you will too. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 6lb P-Line Floroclear has worked great for me. This is a really good line, but it has noticeably more stretch than Ultrasoft, is not quite as abrasion resistant, and not as strong for the diameter. It is definitely more manageable and a little less visible than Ultrasoft, however. So given that, whatever you think is more important, go with that. Quote
