krisjack69 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I would like to know what is the difference between a low profile and one that is not and would like to know what low profile means for the reel.I'm guessing it means the spool is smaller. Quote
fathom Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 not an expert here but, generally, are three types of baitcasters. round lowprofile lew's ng round is obviously round...lowprofile is like the revos in one of your previous posts...the old lew's ng was a danged good reel but, you coulda put it in either category. round casters generally stand more line...in the old days, they were considered sturdier...don't know if that's the case anymore, but outside of the curado 300 (or the revo's 24# drag), you rarely see big game low profile. the low profile, generally, is considered more ergonomic and more user friendly, especially to working baits. these days, especially for bass, is a matter of preference, imho. Super User Crestliner2008 Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 Give me an "old fashion" round reel anyday! Ambassadeur 5500C. Nothing better out there. I'll hold my ground with anyone. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 Examples of Low profile reels Pflueger Supreme, summit. Shimano Citica, Curado. Garcia Revo. Daiwa Fuego, SOL, Zillion. Round reels: Shimano Calcutta, Cardiff. Garcia 4000, 5000 series reels and the Record reels. Daiwa Millionaire series. Then there's the in-betweens. Some aren't made anymore. Shimano - Calyx Pflueger President (this reel has a higher profile than most LP reels). Garcia - the old XLT version reels, Eons. It's really a comfort thing. I found a couple years ago that due to tendon damage in my wrists and hands I have problems holding a rod with a round reel and had to switch to LP's. If it was up to me I'd still be fishing the round reels. They are dependable, bulletproof and long lasting. Quote
