topwater buzz Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Time to spend a little more money tomorrow. Picked up my new Avid spinning rod and must say to those of you who recommended it. Worth the xtra money! So! Shimano reel time. I would like this to be basically a general purpose reel. Crankbaits, spinners.... Looking at Curado in both 100 and 200 size. Like weight of 100 but like the HEG option in 200 size. Is HEG worth weight increase? Rebate makes Curado an attractive option. Or spend away and get the Chronarch 100B. I could get Calais and my wife would divorce me on the spot. Now thats a tough one. Kiddding! Thanks! Quote
d.hark Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 You are gonna put casting reels on a spinning stick?? I am confused?? Or are you?? :-/ If you are looking at spinning reels for your spinning rod I would suggest the Stradic either the new one or the older one is just fine. Quote
topwater buzz Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 NO! i JUST BOUGHT A NEW AVID FOR MY SYMETRE. LOOKING FOR A NEW BAITCASTER. SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 You are going to have to decide which reel to buy, size is personal preference. However, unless this reel is for something technique specific, I highly recommend the faster speeds (higher gear ratio). Quote
Super User Micro Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 I recommend the Shimano Curado 200 DHSV in 7:1 speed. Great reel. Well made, good caster, effective brake. Quote
skillet Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 This is not personal experience but from what I've read and heard don't know if it is worth the extra money to go with the Curado over the Citica. I have the Citica and couldn't be happier. If you are thinking of something above the Curado, another story entirely... As Ever, skillet Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 The high speed Curado sounds like a winner and probably the best bang for the buck. If you wanted to look at something besides a Shimano, I would also look at the Daiwa Zillion. At $250 it's not as good of a deal as the Curado but it's a fine workhorse of a reel. I would highly recommend it. Quote
