Bassnajr Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Hey all... Santa is bringing me lots of BPS gift cards for Christmas and I am thinking of upgrading a few of my rods. I have some nice reels (spinning and baitcast) but my rods are, well, cheapies.... I know, stupid!!! Any how, I value the opinions of the folks here and I am wondering if there are any BPS rods that are worthy of being mentioned in the same conversation as G.Loomis, Kistler, St. Croix etc. Does anyone know who makes the rods for BPS? Thanks beforehand!!!! bassinajr Quote
slomoe Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 the value of the rod it what you make it. If it catches fish, use it. I use cost efficiant rods , that don't mean I can't catch fish. Quote
HUNTER19 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 if your lookin to spend around 60-70 bucks you should look at the St croix triumph series they are great rods i like them!!! and i'm pretty sure they use the same blanks as thier Premier rods!! Quote
Super User Micro Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 Johnny Morris Elite and Signature rods are very good, indeed. Loomis and St. Croix owners may never admit it, but more objective sources say the Elite and Signature rods compare well to the best Loomis and St. Croix rods. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 if your lookin to spend around 60-70 bucks you should look at the St croix triumph series they are great rods i like them!!! and i'm pretty sure they use the same blanks as thier Premier rods!! Not trying to start anything...but the Triumph rods are the worst! I got one with some gift cards, and it is junk. Such a dissapointment. The BPS Extreme rods are decent tho...I have two of them. Both 7'...M and MH. Quote
bocabasser Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 i have a couple of the johnny morris 85 millions, and i also have a couple of g-loomis rods, allstar rods and a local guy around here makes star rods. i love them all and honestly don't think there is that much difference between them. however, i sure do like the fact that bps will take back any rod with no questions asked. if you want an inexpensive rod from bps try the bps crankin stick. i have 2 a think they are great. last time i saw them they were on sale for i think $40. Super User dodgeguy Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 johnny moris rods are as good as any other.bps makes there own rods per bps.they say they have there own factories where the blanks are made. Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 Starting from the Bionic Blade and up ( Extreme, ProQualifier and JM ) they are quite good rods. The only thing I hate about their trigger models is the PowerHumpGrip. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 I have a Johnny Morris Sig. Series and it is a good rod but does not come close the Loomis IMX's or GLX's that I own. I would put it close to the St. Croix Avid. I have had a chance to fish the Extreme, a Rick Clunn, and of course the Tourney Special Series. All would good rods at their respective price points. TournyFish001 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I have some BPS rods- I must admit I HATE THE POWER HUMP!!! I don't like the feeling of the handle after using a traditional non-hump grip Quote
slomoe Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I agree, the power hump is a bit uncomfortable. But fortunatly this is my first BC rod, so I can't compare. ;D Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 i love the hump.i think hand size has to do with it.sand paper would shrink it. Quote
