JigNBig Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 What are some of the best reels for cranking that are good on the wallet. I'm looking for the slower gear ratio. I wish Abu made a low speed version of the Revo line. Quote
Jake. Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I use the revo with a 6:4:1 ratio, it seems to do alright for cranks, but then again I don't do much deep cranking. I have also heard goood things about the BPS David Fritts cranking reel. Quote
twors Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 You can now buy a Shimano Citica in the 5.0:1 ratio Quote
JigNBig Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 Is BPS David Fritts reel manufactured by shimano. If you look at the handle in the picture it looks like all of the Shimano handle. Anyone know? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90570_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 Quote
moby bass Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I'm using my Revo SC for crankbaits. It seems to work ok for me, although i am definitely not a cranking expert by any means. I just don't turn the handle as fast and I find I can really vary the speed, by giving a few fast turns, and combine that with some pauses and twitches. The higher speed makes the bait dash and dart quickly. I like the way rat'l traps run with it. Quote
Olebiker Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I just loaded some Trilene on my new Plueger Trion 5.2:1 reel yesterday. I bought this reel for fishing deep-diving crankbaits and large spinnerbaits. It is fabulous. It casts at least as well as my Revo SC and I really like having the torque that is lacking in high speed reels to retrieve baits that have a lot of resistance. I will probably buy another once the Christmas money comes in. The Revo SC is a 7:1 retrieve ratio and I find its application fairly limited. I use 6.3:1 reels to fish lipless crankbaits. Quote

Infidel. Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I throw most of my cranks on this Lews BB25SS 4 Ball Bearing 5.5:1 Gear Ratio Not the best looking but you couldn't ask for a better cranking reel. Especially for deep cranks. Quote
JigNBig Posted November 27, 2007 Author Posted November 27, 2007 I have one of those sitting in my garage right now. I'm going to send it to reelmech sooner or later when i find time. I may through it on there till i can get another reel. Quote
