MOD NOTE:

Let's not turn this into a "brand war" because that's not what it is.  :o

Catt Note:  :o

I don't consider that commit a brand war but I feel my Calcutta's are at the top and if anything I could make a lateral move to Calais's. I've already up-graded my Calcutta's bearings and drag system so there's really no need to up grade my reels. I also feel my Calcutta rods are as sensitive as any so there's no up-grade required there either,

I hadn't really bought any new rods or reels since the late 90's.  I went back to college from 2000 - 2004 and fishing equipment upgrades sorta took a back burner.

Went back fishing in full time in 2005 and I was having trouble using all my round reel Garcia's (that's all I owned besides some XLT XL plus types).  I was in hand and wrist pain after just a couple hours.  I realized I was going to have to convert to LP reels.....

gulp.

I never owned one before, considered them too wimpy.  The past couple years I've been zeroing in on finding the most comfortable LP reel along with rod upgrades.  I'm pretty set on all my soft plastic rods,  still need a few more rods and reels.  I'm pretty confident when I'm done next year upgrading I'll be set for quite a awhile to come.

After years of experimenting, several years ago I found a couple of brands that I preferred. Starting with core rods (H/F baitcaster, M/F (firm tip) spinning and a M/F (soft tip) baitcaster for treble hooks) I have added technique specific rods over the last several years. So, for me, it's not about replacement, but rather, additions.

Over the last several weeks, as a result of the St. Croix sale, I have "completed" my rod collection and matched up these rods with comparable reels. The Bait Monkey was so impressed, He told me I don't have to buy anything else this year (2007 :o).

I never upgrade.  Mostly because I never get around to selling anything.  So I just keep adding. :o

How true ;D
