Fluorocarbon Lines

I am thinking of going with the fluorocarbon lines 90% of the time in 2008 and am now using the clear/gold Vanish Transition in the 8, 10 and 12 pound test when fishing with fluorocarbon.

Any suggestions as to what brands you guys like?

I also want to try the Yo-Zuri Hybird lines.  Are they fluorocarbon or monofiliment lines?

Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a bonded (not coated) fluorocarbon/ nylon blend. It is much stronger and more manageable than pure fluoro, but it does not match the light refraction index of water as closely as pure fluorocarbon. Hybrid is not invisible, but it's close!

I'm not convinced the color of the Yo-Zuri Hybrid line is all that important, I fish clear, green and smoke. That said, green tends to match up best with most water, but if your water is stained, smoke is less visible. Clear kinda works in all water, it's pretty stealthy, especially in the thinner diameters.

On spinning tackle, #4 (8.5 lb test) Hybrid is a line that works for me in gin clear water.

Only problem with stealthy lines is that if you are short sighted like me it 's so stealthy that you can 't see the line either.  :-[

If you want to try some great line try some Sunline.    Great knot strength,  100 % Fluorocarbon      The down side is the cost and availability.  The clostest thing I have found to Sunline in the Fluorocarbon line is Seargar Invizx.

I have a couple in my arsenal.

Seguar Invizx and BPS XPS 8lb Fluoro.

Also have some Ultras Soft #6 that I will use for my topwater needs. (floats)

But the XPS is going to be my main line next year for my shakey heads, plastics, cranks and open water jigs.

Once I got rid of the crappy Vanish and started using the BPS XPS Fluorocarbon, I don't need to search for another brand.

Had used the BPS XPS with good luck.  Recently I got some Vicious based on others recommendations and so far I like it just as well as the BPS XPS as far as fishing.  I like it much better than the BPS XPS as far as price since it is about half the price of the BPS XPS.

Don't get Vanish Transition - I think it's junk.  The regular clear Vanish is pretty good, but I much prefer P-Line.  It's smoother and has better knot strength and less memory.  I'll definitely be trying the Yo-Zuri next year because of RW's reviews, but one thing is for sure: stay away from the Vanish Transition, as cool as it looks.

I have fished with 15lb P-line Fluorocarbon and liked it so much that I spooled up another reel with it.  Baitcaster that is.  I will try the fluorocarbon experiment on spinning reels next year.

I reccomend Vicious flourocarbon.  I like it because its not very expensive, it is very sensative, and managable!  I fished it on spinning gear the last 3 months and I am very happy with the results.
