Lard_Bass Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 I like throwing chug bugs and Pop-Rs, they are my confidence baits. I recently purchased 2 St. Croix Avids (go Reeds!). I saw in a St. Croix catalog that they recommend topwaters for their LTBC68MXF rod. I purchased both an AS66MF and AS68MXF. Which of these rods would you recommend to use topwater lures? Thanks. Super User Tin Posted November 22, 2007 Super User Posted November 22, 2007 Both will get the job done. The only reason why I use a fast action rod over an extra fast because I feel like I can work the spook better with it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 22, 2007 Super User Posted November 22, 2007 Well, either will work, but what you really want is Moderate Action for all treble hook lures: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546 Quote
Super User grimlin Posted November 22, 2007 Super User Posted November 22, 2007 Yeah i use moderate action. Thanks to RW and his explainatation on rod powers. I love my 6' falcon cara moderate action rod. This is a good treble lure rod. Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 22, 2007 Super User Posted November 22, 2007 I use my crankbait rod for topwaters too, medium power / moderate action . Quote
dbass Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 I like throwing chug bugs and Pop-Rs, they are my confidence baits. Also 2 of my favorite baits. I throw those baits on a 5'6" med power, fast tip. For my buzzbaits I use a 6'6" medhvy, fast tip. I would use the AS66MF for your trebled tops. Quote
