well i handled a cardiff 100a a few minutes ago.....my question is do they make a 101a...the lefthand one?  i have found the 201a but not the 101a.....if not what is the size difference between the 100 and 201?  i really like the small size of the reel...but it has to be a lefty for me to even consider it....and even more so in this case since it is a shimano  ;D

any help is much appreciated.....additionally, if you have any input...good or bad...on this reel thats good too!

thanks

There is not a 101a Cardiff. The difference in size between the 100 and 200 size is the same as the difference in the Calcutta 100 and 200 if you are familiar with those. My cardiff is the same size as my Calcutta 100. I compared my Calcutta 100 and 200 and there is a significant difference in height but they are the same width.

also, thanks for the info, but i am not familiar with any other shimano reels...so it didnt help much

They make'em but why in the world would you want one (lefty)?

Maybe because he is a lefty.  :o

actually i am a righty...but i just cant handle a rod with my left arm/hand....so i use the rod in my dominate hand to get the best hooksets and actions with baits...i tried a casting reel many years ago(righty) couldnt get the hang of it...so i gave up on em till i found a lefty in gander one day(abu 5501) i love casting reels, but for me they MUST be lefty

its ok tho, i came to my senses and decided to buy another abu garcia.....now i just have to decide if i want to stick to the round reels or try a LP

thanks

TRT,

I'm 6'4" around 200lbs. and have hands and fingers to go with the body. Can't palm a basketball but almost. Could palm a round reel. IMHO it makes no difference, as long as there are low profile reels I'll be using them :o. I can almost hide my Citica in my hand. Don't need the line capacity. Try one, they are GREAT....

That Cardiff on Ebay is a first series 101, not a 101a. From what I have read, the newer "a" Cardiffs have some upgraded components and are much better reels. I don't have any of the first series but do have four 100a's. Shimano didn't continue making the left handed 100's when they upgraded the line.

I have a revo s, and yes it is tiny but dont let its size fool you. That thing is a monster. it casts a mile too  ;D.I recommend it

yes i have heard it is a great reel...i am just afraid if i try one, i will HAVE to buy more!

WOW....that is news, not even Shimano have it listed on their products, I was also convinced that there was no 101, thanks for the info.

I believe that reel is old stock...they show up on eBay ever now and then. Shimano currently does not make the cardiff in the 101 model...they do still produce the Calcutta in a 101 however.

I know you want a left hand reel, but I also know you like Abu reels.  Have you considered the EXT reel?  I have the EXT Pro and it is an awesome reel.  It casts like a round Revo.  It has an effective magnetic brake.  It has a solid aluminum frame.  It is ultra smooth and has an incredible drag.

just looked at them again on abu's site....dosent seem they offer a lefty?  plus it is a bit spendy for me right now...i think about $100 is gonna be my max.....the reason i am looking is i am going to be getting my new custom rod here soon, so i would like to have a nice reel for it

thanks
