You'll notice there is no drilled spool on the DSV, this is because the saltwater will enter the drilled spool, and into the bearing packs and crank assembly if used.

I agree 100% dodgeguy. IMPO no matter the manufacturer, ported, drilled, whatever you want to call them, spools with holes can be detrimental to spool support bearing packs, and internal crank assembles in fresh and saltwater systems.

I thought it stood for Deep Spool Version, since it has the deep spool with more line capacity than the "regular" one.

DSV= D series Salt Version  

DPV:

D Series reel, PV the Power Version (special power paddles for reel heavy crank'in also used on the DSV)

so it'd be ok to use this reel in brackish water?

I would say yes as long as it doesn't have a ported or drilled spool. But that doesn't mean you don't have to maintain the reel every time you do use it in a salty situation.
