Super User .RM. Posted November 16, 2007 Super User Posted November 16, 2007 hey whats the DSV on the citica models mean? D S V D Series Saltwater Version You'll notice there is no drilled spool on the DSV, this is because the saltwater will enter the drilled spool, and into the bearing packs and crank assembly if used. Super User dodgeguy Posted November 16, 2007 Super User Posted November 16, 2007 which is why even on a freshwater reel i tape over the holes. Quote

IMPO no matter the manufacturer, ported, drilled, whatever you want to call them, spools with holes can be detrimental to spool support bearing packs, and internal crank assembles in fresh and saltwater systems.Tight Lines!!!! I thought it stood for Deep Spool Version, since it has the deep spool with more line capacity than the "regular" one. Learn something new everyday... Quote

Super User .RM. Posted November 16, 2007 Super User Posted November 16, 2007 Just got off the phone with Shimano, before anything starts here. Sorry folks: DPV = D series Power Version DSV= D series Salt Version DPV: D Series reel, PV the Power Version (special power paddles for reel heavy crank'in also used on the DSV) The_Jake, It does say "Deep Spool Version" in the add for the citca.... The ad for the citica uses the term deep spool version because it has a larger capacity spool but it has nothing to do with the designators. Tight Lines All!!!! Quote

Super User .RM. Posted November 17, 2007 Super User Posted November 17, 2007 dsaavedra, so it'd be ok to use this reel in brackish water?I would say yes as long as it doesn't have a ported or drilled spool. But that doesn't mean you don't have to maintain the reel every time you do use it in a salty situation.Tight Lines!!! Quote
