I've always fished with spinning reels since childhood. I'm looking to purchase my first baitcasting reel. I really don't know much about them but was wondering if this was a good deal...

1) Are you right or left handed?

2) Do you have the cranks of your spinning rods on the right side, or left side?

3) Do you cast and fight fish with your right or left hand?

The most important thing is getting the correct type of set up. Go to a store and play with both right and left handled combo's. Know which one is more natural for you.

After you have determined that, then you will know more about what will work for you. Your not really going to get much for quality with a $100 combo, but you should be able to pick up something that will last a few years.

I have a $50 BPS reel. It feels like a $50 reel. It would work well as a starter reel though. I would look at the BPS Extreme combo on sale, and the Bionic blade w/Bionic plus reel.

Also, you don't have to be tied down to a combo either. Finding seperate reels and rods on sale will also give you a good value too. For example, you could get a BPS Bionic plus reel for $50, a BPS tourney special rod or a Berkley Lightning rod or a Quantum KVD rod or an Ugly stick lite.

You could get a BPS Extreme reel, and a Berkley Lightning rod. IMO, that would be a great $100 set up.
