as you can see i need a rod and reel. i wasnt getting anything expensive so like 35$ for the rod and

35$ for the reel. ill be fishing trout, bass, bluegills, and some other stuff. just wondering whats a good basic rod length and action for a newb like me.

i was thinking of a berkley lightning 6'6" medium action rod with a Abu Garcia 100 series reel. What do you think.

Welcome aboard!

You should look at combinations (rod w/ reel) at the major retailers. This is an example:

http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90836_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2

Be patient, ALL combinations are on sale sometime during the year. The stores kind of rotate their sale items, but you should NEVER pay full retail price.

imho you're better off with at least a 3500 series reel.the bigger spools help prevent line twist issues.
