JigNBig Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I hear most people talk about cranking and they refer to fluorocarbon. The point of this is not to find a lb. test but just what brand of line are you using from cranking. I am looking for a good line to use strictly for cranking, that will stand up to some wood, rock, and weeds. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 I use P-Line CXX. Tough stuff but it has more memory than an elephant. :-/ Quote
JigNBig Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 I have already found that out. I bought some 15lb off of many recommendations and i was disappointed in the memory. It was all coiled up. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 try some big game in 10 pound test its perfect Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 Hmm... For ALL baitcasting applications, Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test). Virtually no memory in use, highly abrasion resistant, does not require any special knot, impervious to water and UV light (the line does not get "old"). Quote
links_man2 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I have had good luck with BPS XPS Flourocarbon line 15# for cranks. Not too wirey and a decent price. I am going to try some of the Vicious Flourocarbon, been hearing lots of good reports on it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 I don't think I have ever seen a favorable review of Vicious lines except from guys that are sponsored or employed by the company. Please be sure to follow-up with a review after fishing the line for awhile. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 I like P-Line Floroclear 15lb or Berkley's new Flourocarbon 15lb for crankbait fishing. Quote
Branuss04 Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I go with 12lb p-line CX. It has less memory than the CXX Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 7, 2007 Super User Posted November 7, 2007 I hear most people talk about cranking and they refer to fluorocarbon. Not me dude, nylon luva here, Trilene Big Game 10-12 pound test. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted November 7, 2007 Super User Posted November 7, 2007 I use 10lb test for crankin, and tried out three this year, after using Trilene XL for ever. I tried Trilene XT, Vanish clear flouro and Sufix Elite. Here's how I'd compare the four. Handling; Xl is the limpest, easiest handling line, period. Sufix Elite was a close second. The other two were not close. Visibility; Vanish Flouro was best, Elite a very close second, the other two were OK Abrasion resistance; XT was the best, Vanish and Elite about the same, XL the worst. Knots; I use the SD jam knot for cranks, and these lines all did just fine with that knot. Sufix Elite is what's on my crank rods now. The qualities I want most in a crankbait line are easy handling for long casts, and no coiling on the pause; and low visibility. Cheers, GK Quote
Super User cart7t Posted November 7, 2007 Super User Posted November 7, 2007 I use a line you can't find anymore. It's a co-polymer called Realine. Low memory, less stretch than normal mono's like XL or stren, decent abrasion resistance and the knot strength has been outstanding. A place called weber liquidators still has it in closeout. email capthank@rcn.com Quote
Super User grimlin Posted November 7, 2007 Super User Posted November 7, 2007 I have had good luck with BPS XPS Flourocarbon line 15# for cranks. Not too wirey and a decent price. I am going to try some of the Vicious Flourocarbon, been hearing lots of good reports on it. Stay away from it(vicious line)....That stuff tends to split like a banana after a backlash.... I wish i could take a picture of what i'm talking about.I won't buy that line ever again. I use BPS XPS as well but in 12# test...i really like it. Quote
