luckyinkentucky Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Would you guys / gals buy a refurbished reel from the manufacturer? Assuming it was completely like new, other than the fact that it was once used would you buy it for 50% off the price of a new one? Quote

Super User grimlin Posted November 5, 2007 Super User Posted November 5, 2007 yup.....Long as it's a name brand, sent it to reel mech and have him give it a clean up.You'll have a brand new reel all cleaned up for half the price it cost. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 5, 2007 Super User Posted November 5, 2007 Not me. A friend of mine bought one and didn't take it out for a while. By the time he used it a couple of times it broke. The warranty was up and it cost another $75 to get it fixed. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 5, 2007 Super User Posted November 5, 2007 It would depend on why it had to be refurbished and the type of reel it is. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 5, 2007 Super User Posted November 5, 2007 I would suggest keeping an eye on the "Flea Market" here on the Forum. There are some GREAT deals, both new and used that come up all the time. I recently puchased a couple of reels and after servicing by ReelMech, still paid about 50% of (new) retail price. Rather than buying "refurbished" from a distant 3rd party, I prefer David Green's tune-up and inspection. Who do you trust? Quote

I'm going to buy one of those STX reels on there for a down right steal. Couldn't ask for a better price than what he's asking. Quote
Super User flechero Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 I used to buy ALL my reels refurbed from Southwestern Parts and Service, the ABU service center for my part of the country. I bought over 15 of them in the 90's- and aside from a scratch or two... half price reels that were warranted as new was a perfect solution to my problems of not enough $ in the pocket! Quote
Guest muddy Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I have bought quite a few reels on this flea markt, especially from Cart7 and Pondhopper, all were less than 1/2 price and a quick trip to BPS service center for a clean up and lube and everyone of them has worked fine! Quote
Super User .RM. Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 Would you guys / gals buy a refurbished reel from the manufacturer? If it was refurbed by the original manufacturer and there was a statement from them to the fact... ;)Depends on the manufacturer Assuming it was completely like new, other than the fact that it was once used would you buy it for 50% off the price of a new one?A returned-refurbed failure.... ;)Again with the proper documentation and depending on the manufacturer Tight Lines!!!
