SimonSays Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Since I recently snapped my rod on a 2lb bass (BPS extreme travel rod ) I was looking into a GLX MBR783 as an all-around rod, I saw that they offer a 2 piece "travel rod" would there be a performance hit with using a 2 piece rod over a 1 piece? Would I just be crippling the extra sensitivity of the GLX if I were to go with the 2 piece? Thanks guys =D Quote
Guest avid Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 The only good reason to get a 2 piece rod is because you absolutely must in order to transport or store it. I have a toyota tacoma extra cab (not 4 door) and I carry rods up to 7'3" with no problem. The 6'6" length of the 783 will fit in most vehicles. But you are the one who knows what length you require. This is an outstanding rod. Perhaps none better for general purpose bass fishing. It will do everything from shakeyheads to small swimbaits. It's that good. the ferrule is a weak link. It also will dampen sensitivity, and ruin the parabolic curve of the rod. I have disliked them since I cast with one and the top half of the rod went sailing off. Good luck with whatever you decide. Super User T-rig Posted November 3, 2007 Super User Posted November 3, 2007 Half of my rods are 2 piece and I don't find that they have less sensitivity or that the parabolic curve is ruined. With high quality rods it is almost impossible to tell difference. Check out this thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1193956715 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 3, 2007 Super User Posted November 3, 2007 I have the MBR 783GLX and I use it as my all purpose rod. I would highly recommed it. As far as getting a two piece rod goes, in theory you loose some sensitivety but with it being a GLX rod that may not be the case. I would only buy a two piece rod if I had to. Quote

SimonSays Posted November 4, 2007 Author Posted November 4, 2007 2 for a 2piece and 2 for 1piece, i'm still confused, some say you could lose sensitivity and others not, has anyone tried both out side by side? (tough request, i know) Technically I COULD fit the rod into my 2-door civic but if I do it takes up 2 spots in my car. If I get a 2 piece I can just toss it in the trunk but I am buying the GLX for it's sensitivity and if a 2piece does reduce the sensitivity then that would be sort of counter productive. Any more ideas? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 4, 2007 Super User Posted November 4, 2007 I don't really have a dog in this hunt but my suggestion is buy the 2 piece and fish with it a few times. At lots of places you can take it back and get the 1 piece within 30 days if you don't like the 2 piece rod. Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 5, 2007 Super User Posted November 5, 2007 Reason why I sometimes prefer 2 piece rods, there are many times when I don 't have partner to go fishing and there 's nobody to help me to cartop the tub so I go on foot patrol, problem is that the lakes I go on foot patrol the banks are covered with what sometimes looks like an impenetrable mass of mesquite trees, huizache and cat nail brush, overgrown grass and all sorts of weeds, it 's not easy to walk through all that with a 1 piece rod, with a 2 piece rod is a piece of cake, I just separate the pieces and I 'm ready to move to another spot. In a rod with that quality the difference in sensitivity between a 1 piece and a 2 piece is so small you won 't notice it. Quote
