rbrick Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Yesterday my friend and I went to his father's house on Lake Seminole. It is on the Fla,Ga border. When we went into his fathers den he had 11 bass over ten lbs mounted.I asked him what he caught them on.He said he had caught all but one on a Devil's Horse.I used to use them as a kid but I haven't heard anything about them for a long time.Think I'll give them a try again. Anyone here fish a Devil's Horse? Rick Wells Tallahassee Quote
Olebiker Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Absolutely. It's my favorite topwater. I hope to get to fish it on Seminole once the hydrilla dies down some. We flipped the hydrilla out in front of Wingate's and up in Spring Creek area all day Saturday and only caught 4. Quote
Davis Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Not familiar with it. Guess its time for a google search. Quote
rbrick Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 Olebiker, does anyone in town sell them?Do you use the 3/8 or 1/2 oz size? What is your favorite color? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 24, 2007 Super User Posted September 24, 2007 Always effective when topwater is the choice: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=15540&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults If you are just buying one, the "Frog" pattern is traditional. llPa1nll Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Probably my Favorite Topwater bait when the water has allot of "Chop" on it. I usually go with the 1/2oz Tenn Shad color or Sliver Black Back. As always switch out the stock treble hooks for some premium hooks. Dont forget to wait until you feel the wait of the fish before you set the hook. Quote

I use the 1/2 oz white with black stripes. It has a little red on the nose. I haven't bought any in Tallahassee, but if I see any I'll let you know. Quote

Boett43 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 How do you fish this lure? ...I love the topwater action this looks like my next lure purchase... Quote
rbrick Posted September 24, 2007 Author Posted September 24, 2007 It's a prop bait so pull hard to get the propellers going and then let it set.Don't try to walk the dog,the propellers will interfere. It is designed to be pulled straight. Quote

Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted September 25, 2007 Super User Posted September 25, 2007 I seen a article in Bassmaster back when it was a great magazine about a guy down south that used um YEAR round all he used was devils horse .Said it was all he needed Quote
frogtog Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 That guy's name would be Top Water Charlie. I get to fish against him in November on the Harris chain at the ABA nationals. I have met him before and he knows more about a Devil's Horse than you would ever believe. He litterly See's that bait different than we do. This is all he uses. When I see him I will try to get him on BR to tell you some of the stuff he told me. Quote

skillet Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 It was the first top water bait I bought after I started fishing for Bass, many Moons ago and it is still my favorite (well, a toss up between it and the Dalton Special). You can twitch it and pause or any variation of that. There have even been days when the fish wanted it on just a straight pull (with the reel) just fast enough to keep the props turning. I've used different sizes and colors. One of the all time greats... As Ever, skillet BTW Frogtog, It would be GREAT if you could get himto come on here!!! Quote

I remember when I was a kid, my next door neighbor would take the metal lip from a Jitterbug and put it on a Dalton Special. He and his friends called it a Walkie Talkie. Seems like I remember Dalton making a lure like that called a Dalton Twist. Quote
rbrick Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 That Dalton Special I caught a lot of bass on.Haven't heard a lot about it in many years. Quote
skillet Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I got it at a yard sale a long time ago and Love it. IMHO it swings wider and farther than other walking baits. I wouldn't mind trying that with the lip of a jitterbug except I don't know if they are still being made. Pluse that would kill the walking action and don't know what you would be left with ;D... As Ever, skillet Quote
frogtog Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Have you ever seen a Ugly Albert. I have four of them. Used the Black at the Stick Marsh in Florida and finely had to put it up to keep from draining the lake. ;D Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted September 26, 2007 Super User Posted September 26, 2007 Peacock bass love that lure too! Quote
rbrick Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 I found this on Topwater Charlie. http://www.americanbassanglers.com/news.php?getnews=1&news_id=90 Quote
