One thing about my Avid that I do not like

But the screw in thing that you lock it with is made of plastic and so are the threads. Makes a nice noise sometimes when fighting a fish. Doesn't seem to stay tight like my cheaper rods with the metal threads.

Is this something that goes with most rods? Is it a sensitivity thing? I just don't like it at all. Starting to bother me. Love the way the rod feels but that plastic cheap feeling just irks me. >

Mine is a spinning rod I might add.

I just don't care that they use plastic for those threads and nuts.

Maybe its my reel (Pflueger President) being graphite and not aluminum? Maybe its the give that its having on the rod?

The reel seats have never slipped a reel or made any noise for me.  :-/

Aren't the threads supposed to be plastic or some composite anyway? I think use of any other material like a metal would make the rod heavier. Let me know if I misunderstood you.

You might want to spray the threads with a something like reel magic. Lamiglas recommends this before putting the reel on. I do it to somply with their recommendations. Give it a try and see if it helps.

Maybe its just new to me. All of my rods in the past have had some kind of metal for there seats, threads, and nuts.

IMO it is just a pet peave of mine. Its not a huge noise. Just a creaking type of noise when I try to tighten them more (which imo is probably the rod telling me enough! lol ). When a fish is on I think the noise is coming from the same area where the cork ends and the plastic starts. I like to place my right hand in that area and it could be because of the way I hold the rod. I like to have the end of the reel inbetween my pointer finger and middle finger. Probably not correct but that is how I have always held the rod with my hand and fingers.

I should also say that the nut isn't coming undone to an extent, my reel just doesn't feel as secure as my other cheapy rods. There is some slight movement but again I think it may be the reel being not aluminum. Because I can't get the seats anymore tighter than they are.

I check mine all the time as a compulsive habit when on I fishing and never had one come loose. Sorry to hear about your issue, I love my avids.

yes none of my avids have done that eighter .... i love my avids .... tube that rod up and send her in .... warrenty is the answer .... hey you will get the new avid with the ipc tooling .... i believe Avid a simmular problem with a rod in the past he sent his in and they replaced it no questions .... ;D

Majority of all rods these days use plastic for there screw thing.

The Avid Premier spinning rods do the same thing, the seat screw thingy loosens.  

What I've done to keep it from slipping....tighten down the screw thingy w/ the reel on the seat & then wrap electrical tape, tight on the end of the screw thingy.  Make sure you are a mm or so just above the bottom lip of the screw thingy so the electrical tape will slide under the thread.  If the screw thingy does come loose the electrical tape will catch & keep it secure.

No I know the threads aren't damaged. I took a look at them.

BUT I will given St Croix a call around January time and see what they say. Still have some fishing left so I'll wait until the snow flies.

Here is my take on what is going on. Fuji makes thousands and thousands of reel seats each year. Becouse they are graphite and not metal, it's a little more difficult to hold a tight tolerance. So as the parts are being assembled, some will not fit as tight as most of them. One of my Loomis rods tends to have the seat loosen up too. Never to the point of making any noise, but sometimes after using it for awhile, I will check it and find it a little loose. I will be getting it taken care of in the off season. All my reels are Mg or aluminum accept for my light spinning reel for pan fishing.

Before you warranty it or spend time/money on a return, clean the reel foot (top and bottom) and the underside of the reel seat hood. (Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol)  I've seen a number of them "creak" badly when fighting a fish from just being dirty.

I've had a GL3, a Premier and a Cabela's Fish Eagle II....all do this same thing.  Not the noise, but loosen up on me through the course of a day.  It's not just a St. Croix thing, and mine were not dirty.  They all only did this once and it was when they were new and on their maiden voyage, after a "re-torque" they have never come loose again.
