Thinking about one last rod, suggestions?

Decided to keep the Revo Sx and get a rod for it. Need suggestions though.

Currently have:

Gloomis 844C GLX / Shimano Curado 100D - Just for jigs

Gblanks 6'10" MH / Shimano Scorpion 1001 - Been using this for Cranks / Spinnerbaits , although it's a fast tip, feels in between mod/fast.

Dobyns 702ML / Shimano Stradic - Shaky head

Extreme BPS 6'6" / Pflueger President - Super Flukes and occasional other weightless plastics.

I was thinking about getting a frog rod, but wont' be fishing frogs until spring or maybe not even until summer.

Could get a rod just for senkos.

Could get a better crankbait/spinner bait rod (Carrot Stick) and put the Revo on the Gblanks rod and use that for senkos.

Mhmmm...?

Don't want to go over $200, and $150 is my magic number. Maybe a powell rod..?

I just saw that and emailed him, thank you.

I'm leaning toward the Carrot Stick and using it for cranks and just using the Gblanks rod for senkos and random stuff. But still want some suggestions.

Have you stopped your pursuit of a DS rod?

If you're looking for a frog rod, perhaps a a Lamiglas XMG 50 rod?  The model number is EXC705. It is suited for Jigs, Frogs, Creature Baits, Senkos and Carolina Rigs. It also sports a graphite handle. I imagine the sensitivity factor is awfully high if not wickedly sweet.

DS Rod? I might be tired but I can't for the life of me figure out what DS means. Fill me in!

The Lami looks nice, but a bit more then I wanted to pay. That handle looks SWEET, although I'm not sure how comfortable it would be to hold.

I have handled that XMG rod with the graphite handle and it feels great! Cleaning the handle would definitely be easier than cork. I think the folks at Tackle Tour review an XMG rod, but I don't recall which one.

One thing I like about Lamiglas is that most stores (at least in my area) sell them for well under the MSRP.  The last time I looked, the XMGs in a local shop were about $199.

ohh islandbass breaking out the big guns ..... imo that rod is a sleeper ..... i agree 100 .... thats the next rod on my hit list .... the handel on that stick looks outta this world .... i bet you could feel a bass looking at your bait ....

Well said! I have a buddy who has one and he cannot stop talking about it. He hooked into a huge carp by accident and was blown away at how much reserve power the rod had during the battle. I was lucky my bait monkey was sleeping when he told me this.  ;D

Haha. I just got the reel in September, no need for me to lose that much money, I figured I might as well keep it. I wanted to sell it to get a Citica 100DSV or Curado 100 but oh well.

I use the Extreme or Dobyns rod for drop shotting now when I go to the one place that I DS at.

That XMG is incredible, and due to the fact that senkos are such a special bait, and work pretty much year round, I think the senko deserves a pretty rod like that. 90% sure that's what I'm getting, just wish I could find it local for $200!

One last question about the Lamis.

I've seen two different looking XMG50's

Both have a SIMILAR handle, but one has the same handle with a front grip and one has no front grip at all. ...!?

I am not sponsored by Lamiglas (I surely wish that I was  :) but I can explain it.  The model you see there with the Titanium (ringless) Guides is the previous XMG models.  Lamiglas changed the guides to Alconites on the newer models.  This is the major difference. The rest of the rod is the same.

How would you rate the sensititivity and backbone of your Dobyns rod on a scale of 1-10 for drop shotting? Thanks!

considering I know where you fish at....you need another swimbait rod for either smaller baits (I use my SX all the time for them) or if your willing to kick out 2 bills throw down on an Okuma and a Cardiff...used they'd be under $200....or maybe a fish finder?!?!?

I have a Calcutta 400B and a Crucial swimbait rod. I don't like throwing swimbaits all that much though, so for now, one is enough.

I love throwing Jigs the most, Senkos, Shaky Head, super flukes, and all those so I'm still leaning towards a rod I can throw senkos on in cover and throw frogs too. That XMG should do the trick.

I can always throw smaller swimbaits under 2oz with ease on my 844C or that XMG I would bet.

The Dobyns rod is very sensitive. I would say it's no less sensitive then my GLX Loomis 844C rod which was twice the price. Well balanced, and feels great. It's a BIT limp but it is a ML but I still love it. Fun as hell to fish 2-3lb fish, but does have the power to pull in a big fish if needed.

As for the XMG, The Cabelas website has the older model? Is that what you're saying? Which guides are better? The cabelas one also has the front grip on it , the one on the Lami site has just the exposed blank.

mhmmm.... I have some rods with no front grip, although they might be a bit more sensitive they're also not as comfortable.

I'm also leaning a bit toward the 704, it's a 1/4-5/8oz weight as opposed to 5/8- 1 1/2 oz. I'm going to fish weightless senkos and some with a small weight, and frogs, so the 704 would probably be a better bet.
