The_Natural Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 If you don't, than do yourself a favor and do it! The savings is incredible versus buying filler spools, and you won't hesitate to yank the line off of a reel and put on some fresh...even if you just feel like it. Also...bulk spools are larger in diameter, so they have less memory from the get go. If you use Pline CXX all the time...plunk down the $48 and get 3000yds of it! The memory coming off of the spool versus the 600yd spools is very noticeable (which bugs me). CXX is almost $10 for 300yds, or you can get 3k for $48 from bass pro...why wouldn't you?! Fluorocarbon is a little more expensive, but it seems the market is catering to the bulk spools as well, with Pline Fluorocarbon and Pline Halo both coming in bulk spools new for this year, and the new Trilene Fluorocarbon also coming in 2000yd spools (which I indulged in the 10 and 15lb versions). The Bass Pro XPS fluoro is $59.99 for 1000yds...well worth the savings. You will worry about line less if you go bulk. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 I do. I do. Cabellas and BPS plus the local Green Top Sporting Goods store. Quote
luckyinkentucky Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I purchase bulk spools of Sufix from BPS on sale. I can get by a season with changing most of my reels every month or so with a couple of them. Quote
links_man2 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Just be sure and not leave the bulk spools in the light or where there is high heat. I keep mine in the box in a closet inside the house. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 I recently bought a pound of Yo-Zuri Hybrid for $65. I'm not sure how much that is in terms of yards, but I'm guessing it's about three years worth! Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 Good tip. I've been buying the 1000 yard spools, and end up buying more before the season is over. I need to step up to the big 3000's, and save some more cash. Good tip too from links_man2; keep that line out of the light. It will last a lot longer. Cheers, GK Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 I should have said; keep that mono line out of the light. flouro is supposed to be unaffected by UV light. The co-polymer lines? Play it safe and store it in the dark. Quote

Play it safe and store it in the dark. I 2nd that- I had (2) 1,000yd spools of flouro in my spooling station which is in my rod locker of the boat- Had the line there all summer long and it remained the same as it was out of the original packaging it is nice to keep it in the boat I really like that. Mono I do not use much and keep it in a cool spot at home in the house. Quote
Super User flechero Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 I buy bulk spools. The savings is huge. As much as I change line, it would cost a fortune to buy in fillers only. It's a good idea to keep any bulk spool at home, in climate controlled conditions. The old expression "store in a cool dry place" applies well to line. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 It's the only way to fly, especially with Sufix Braid. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 25, 2007 Super User Posted October 25, 2007 Years ago I all I used was Trilene XL, XT and Big Game. I always bought bulk spools. After sometime, I had fallen behind with all the new lines that had come out. About two years ago I finally decided to through away all the the old line I had built up and check what was out there. I have since gone to buying bulk spools of Yo Zuri Hybrid. BPS had 1/8lb spools of it for $4.50. For example, I got a 1000 yards of 6lb for $4.50. The line so far has been great. I stocked up on several different pound weights. I have enough line to last me a long time. Quote
ABC123 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 I get 1000 yard spools of 4lb for the panfish rods, lasts about 2 years. I get 3000 yard 8lb mono, which is plenty for a couple years. I still haven't bought bulk braid yet as I have not settled on which one I want for primary use. I'm most likely going to alway's use the small spool of tracer braid as I don't go through it much, and a small spool lasts a long time. I may take the plunge an buy the Yo-Z in bulk though. Quote
SimonSays Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Where do you guys get bulk spools online? (besides BPS) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 26, 2007 Super User Posted October 26, 2007 I bought mine at Tackle warehouse, but after checking their website, it's no longer avaiable. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted October 26, 2007 Super User Posted October 26, 2007 Since I've changed to RealLine I've been buying all the bulk spools I can find. Darn the luck the company isn't around anymore, I really like this line. Quote
Triton9 Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 i love bying the bulk spools, its soooo much more convenient than having to buy alot of small spools severaal times, and alot cheaper. i buy mine from tackle warehouse because thats like the only place that offers the bulk spools of what i use. Super User Raul Posted October 26, 2007 Super User Posted October 26, 2007 Savings and price have never been an issue for me, availability .... that 's another story. When you live in a 3rd world country sometimes what you want and what you need are not always available localy, or it may be available somewhere but no way I 'm going to pay 7 dollars shipping for a 5 dollars spool of line, besides that I may be dangerous, who knows ? the BaitMonkey may jump all over me when ordering the line :-/. For years I 've purchased bulk spools, that way I don 't have to worry for a long time about not having line to respool. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 26, 2007 Super User Posted October 26, 2007 There are several great sellers on ebay. Thats where I get mine. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted October 26, 2007 Super User Posted October 26, 2007 There are several great sellers on ebay. Thats where I get mine. I get 1500 yard spools of 50lb Power Pro on ebay for half the price per/yard of single fill spools. 1 lb spools of Yo Zuri ultra soft are on sale at Cabella's but only in limited sizes. Ronnie Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 27, 2007 Super User Posted October 27, 2007 great! i was just gonna ask if powerpro comes in bulk spools. i really like powerpro but i have to use some more different lines before i go buying bulk spools, to make sure its the line i really like. Quote
BigBassBob Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 You can get some great deals on eBay. Picked up a spool of Mustad Thor Ultra Line 12 lb Green, 4790 yds for $8.99. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250140600830 Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted October 30, 2007 Super User Posted October 30, 2007 I buy bulk. If I fish a combination any at all during the day it gets respooled before the next day. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted October 30, 2007 Super User Posted October 30, 2007 I buy Pline in bulk through Ztackle.com for a few friends and myself. We usually buy around 30,000 yards at a time. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 30, 2007 Super User Posted October 30, 2007 I buy bulk. If I fish a combination any at all during the day it gets respooled before the next day. Wow! I change, or more accurately, add line "as needed." Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft don't "get old." Quote
mayassa Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I buy in Bulk from Cortland and my friend does too, but he re-spools every time he goes out. His closet is a wonder over 30,000 feet of line. Quote
