nicmic Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 i fish a lot of plastic worms of different sizes and i was courious as to what recommendations might be for the weekend fisheman as far as what different size hooks should be carried. i have heard the phrase "match the catch" so i would guess the same goes for "match the size of the plastic worm"! my selection has been: 3-4" worm = 1/0 ewg 6- 8" worm = 3/0 ewg and anything bigger a 5/0 ewg. if i am completely wrong or someone has other suggestons please let me know. thanks Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 25, 2007 Super User Posted September 25, 2007 Welcome to the forums. You are exactly right with your thinking. I personally use smaller hooks than the norm. The smaller the hook, the more action you get from the worm. But the greater chance you have to loose the fish. As an example I like useing a #1 offset hook on my light C-Rig trick worms. Most would say I am crazy but I caugh a bass almost 10lbs on it last year. Quote
Garnet Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Try Daihcai Copper head they have a mechanicail advantage over the ewg stlye. Garnet Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 25, 2007 Super User Posted September 25, 2007 Welcome aboard! It's probably more about what you are comfortable with. I use 3/0 Offset Worm Hooks with smaller baits. 4/0 with most soft plastics and 5/0 Offset Round Bend with 7" Senkos and big worms. I fish Gamakatsu and XPoint. Quote
Super User Marty Posted September 25, 2007 Super User Posted September 25, 2007 I consider not just the length of the bait, but also the diameter. I always want a hook gap at least double the diameter of the lure so there's room for the hook to get through the plastic and into the fish's jaw. Quote
MemphisFisherman Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I fish a little smaller alt than most people, fish are going to bite most every lure in the head. 2 alt or 3 alt almost alway's on texas rigged worms. Quote
