Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 27, 2007 Super User Posted October 27, 2007 Which rod would you buy and why? thanks everyone. Quote
Triton9 Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 i voted for the all star because i love my several all stars. i dont particularly like the light and tough rods, ive used them and dont particularly care for them, i have a few all stars and i love them there great rods for the money, heck there just great rods. i would go with the all star becuse of the reliability and durability, and my satisfaction in their rods. Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 27, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 27, 2007 ok thanks for the input. what was it you didnt like about the daiwa? Quote
Super User Micro Posted October 27, 2007 Super User Posted October 27, 2007 Dsaavedra, pick a rod. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 27, 2007 Super User Posted October 27, 2007 I'd go for the All Star. I had a bad experience with their customer service in the past but it still gets my vote. I liked the feel and action of the rod I had a lot. The one I had cracked when I hooked into a 40+lb catfish. I only had it a couple of months and I was able to exchange it where I purchased it. The sales guy talked me into a St. Croix Avid instead. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 27, 2007 Super User Posted October 27, 2007 From those two I would go for the All Star, why ? just because it has a straight handle, I hate hump grips. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 27, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 27, 2007 rowland im havin some difficulties! : i like em both. i do like the hump grip on the daiwa, ive never used one but it looks comfortable. maybe i should just go with the team allstar..... Quote
W1-10 Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I just got a daiwa L & T (TL-701-5RB) and am really happy with the purchase. I have an all-star that I like a lot also. I don't know what you would use yours for but mine is a jigging and worming rod. I guess it kind of depends on weather or not this is an all-purpose rod for you, or you have something in mind that it would be used for (don't say fishing)? Quote
Guest avid Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Gotta go with the Daiwa. Love the humps the humps the lovely lady bumps la de da da da. Quote
Jake. Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I handled both rods today at my local tackle shop, and I have to say, the daiwa felt better. They where lighter and felt alot more comfortable in my hands. i can't speak for the sensetivity, because I have never fished either. So which one did I buy? Neither. I ended up buying a st. croix avid. Save your $$$ and get an avid. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 27, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 27, 2007 is there a way i can check on the poll results? anyway, i think im gonna go with the daiwa. i will mainly be using weightless soft plastics and small jigs on it. so i would get a 7' M witha Fast tip. Quote
W1-10 Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 hey dsaavedra, after reading your other post, I think this rod may be the m/f your thinking of getting? If so, I think you'll be really happy with it for the baits you listed. I toyed with the same rod before deciding on the light and tough MH/f. The m/f seemed to have almost a moderate action which would be good if you're gonna throw spinners. When I posted, the poll was like 13 to 2 for the all-star. I was one of the two for the daiwa. I like mine a lot, I like the handle shape for pitching as well. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 28, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 28, 2007 13 to 2? really? wow! thats a strong vote. i think im gonna go with the daiwa though. is the m/f daiwa moderate enough for cranks? Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted October 28, 2007 Super User Posted October 28, 2007 is the m/f daiwa moderate enough for cranks? You will either find a rod that excels with plastics/jigs, or excels with cranks. Those 2 applications really require 2 completely different actions that don't overlap. Quote
Super User Micro Posted October 29, 2007 Super User Posted October 29, 2007 I agree with Chris. But it's not to say it can't be done. A M/F rod would be best for what you stated earlier - lighter, unweighted plastics. A M/F is OK for cranks, but not ideal. I use M/Fs for cranks. Just be careful on the hook set. In my experience, fish will usually hook themselves, or just need a light hook set, when using cranks. You may want to loosen your drag a bit more when fishing cranks if you tend to have a hard hook set. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 29, 2007 Super User Posted October 29, 2007 I've fished with both and have picked the Team All Star Comparing an IM6 rod to an IM10rod is not a very good comparison regardless of application. Quote
W1-10 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I know that the m/f light and tough that I handled had a more moderate action that what I was expecting, but what chris said is really the best answer. A crankin stick from BPS is only like $40-$50 dollars and some would say that it's one of the better overall constant deals in fishing rods. MAde specifically for cranks. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 29, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 29, 2007 yea i pretty much figured it wouldnt be best for cranks. i do OK w/ cranks on my current M/F but like micropterus said, ya gotta be real gentle. Quote
