Super User Redlinerobert Posted October 23, 2007 Super User Posted October 23, 2007 Some of you may not remember that far back. Mine was an Olympic Spinning combo. As a kid we use to fish the rock Jetty at Moss Landing, CA and still remember all the perch, sand dabs and jackesmelt we use to catch. Don't remember the model number, just remember that I absolutley cherished that rod and reel. I wish I still had it. Quote

ABC123 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 When I was a kid, there was alway's set ups to use where ever I went. My first, all my own set up, was one I still have/use. A Berkley Avenger glass rod w/pistol grip and a Shimano Bantam Mag 10Xsg. Somewhere around '82??? It was mothballed for a few years in favor of spinning gear, but lately I had been using it again for crankbaits. Pulled in many Northern Pike, among other fish, with that combo. It was used in a few states and Canada in it's lifetime. Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Daiwa underspin reel with matching rod. I still remember my first bass, 19 years ago, I remember the spot, and seeing it jump. I had no Idea it would lead to a lifelong addiction. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 23, 2007 Super User Posted October 23, 2007 not sure but i wish i knew. it was a small red zebco spincast on a matching pistol grip rod that was about 5foot. i remember th handle brushed against the body of the reel w/ each turn and i used to practice casting so much in my yard that i eventually wore a hole in the side of the body. i was sad then.... but my first bass combo was just a few years ago it was a shakespeare synergy combo. POS broke after my first day of bassfishing. so after that i got my second bass combo which is still in good use today an okuma stratus st30 on a shakespeare ugly stick 6'6" M. Quote

Daniel My Brother Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Zebco 202 on a semi-transparent fiberglass rod. Bought it used at the neighbor's garage sale. The black cover and wingnut on the handle were after-market upgrades. ;D Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted October 24, 2007 Super User Posted October 24, 2007 Honestly? My first rod was a canepole. I was 3 yrs old and my dad chopped one down that I could use. Spent MANY hours on our dock with that thing before I got a actual rod/reel when I was 4 yrs old. Zebco 202 on a yellow solid glass Holiday rod. It is still in the shed at the lake and still works. It was junk when it was new and it's still junk. ;D Quote
