Bream Master Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Do you guys like this reel? I know, it's their bottom end stuff and a lot of Shimano's lower end stuff sucks but I was just looking for something within my budget to pair on a crankbait rod. Does it cast far? Is it built sturdy? Good drag? Is it pretty much like a Citica? I was thinking it might be like a Daiwa Procaster 100 but not sure. You won't hurt my feelings if you think this reel is garbage. Cheers! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 18, 2007 Super User Posted October 18, 2007 No. I owned two and gave a new one to LBH which I think he probably gave away to someone else. You would be MUCH better off with a Citca or buying a used reel from someone on our Flea Market when they pop up. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 18, 2007 Super User Posted October 18, 2007 If you are talking about the Procaster 6+1 ( PR100H/HL ) that 's a reel I would recommend easily ........ but not for crankbaiting, with an IPT of 28" reeling in deep divers with that reel feels pretty much like trying to reel in a bucket, that is, in case the bucket runs straight with that speed. TW has them a t a very good price and you get free shipping also. Sorry to say that in that price range Daiwa beats Shimano by far. If what you want is a crankbait reel then I would seriously consider saving my money and getting a Calcutta 50, it 's built like a tank, reels in slow and powerful, doesn 't weight much ( 7.9 ) oz, good drag, good bearings, meant to last for years. Super User roadwarrior Posted October 19, 2007 Super User Posted October 19, 2007 Raul, This is the $60 reel he is talking about: http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SHCOR.html Quote
Pencil Pusher Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 This is the perfect time of the year to get some real bargains in reels (unless you just gotta have a Shimano). BPS has a bunch of their reels on sale and our local big sporting good stores have some big markdowns on reels which are probably being discontinued or updated for next year. I recently picked up two Daiwa TD Advantage HST's which were regular priced at $139 for $69. Quote

The Procaster PR100 is a better reel. Quote

I bought the Coriolis back when I thought all I needed for striper fishing (drifting) was line storage since I would not be casting with the reel- WRONG! The reel was not strong enough to fish...Period! Quote

I would also not go with that reel. Save up to get at least a Cardiff. It has a gear ratio that is suitable for crankbaits. This is also the reel I use for tossing crankbaits. And despite having a curado D DHSV, I STILL PREFER to toss crankbaits with my cardiff. It just feels better during the retirve. Don't get me wrong, the Curado is more than capable, but I prefer the line recovery rate of my cardiff. To me, it seems the fish like it better too. That procaster does sound sweet though. I think I might get one for my little girl. Quote
