dumb_dog11 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I am taking a friend bass fishing that has never gone before. So what are some things that will catch bass and are easy to use/learn? Thanks for your tips Quote
rp_carr Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 How I got "hooked" on bass fishing with artificials. Throw a plastic worm (I used a 7" Electric Grape Power Worm") towards lilly beds, stumps, grass any other structure. Watch the line closely, if it tugs then tug back. If it doesn't tug back then give the rod tip a jerk or two. Apply different amounts of force. with each jerk. When you feel you are no longer in "fishy" water, then reel in, throw and repeat. Try to pick water with a lot of bass as this will make it more enjoyable. After he catches a few he will start telling you how to catch fish! Mention this forum when the day is out so he can research his own new techniques. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 7, 2007 Super User Posted August 7, 2007 In-line spinners, all he has to do is to cast and retrieve. Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 What Raul said, also A ORIGINAL #11FLOATING RAPALA , stop and go and twitch it back to the bost Quote
Vyron Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Lipless crankbaits Just cast and retrieve , no need 2 set the hook Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted August 7, 2007 Super User Posted August 7, 2007 Most times, when I take a rookie fishing I use live bait. If they want to try artificials, I set them up with spinnerbaits or crankbaits. Falcon Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 7, 2007 Super User Posted August 7, 2007 wacky rigged stick baits or Trigged, I agree 100% Buzzbaits up the "fun factor" as well, giving him/her a visual focal point. Works for me to stay interested when the fishing is slow. Wayne Quote
Cory20 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 If your friend has the patience to fish slow try a senko, they still catch fish even when fished wrong. All the before mentioned cast and retrieve methods are great too. If the conditions and time of day are right try some top water. Poppers, jitterbug, buzz baits will be the easiest, maybe some walk the dog stuff too. They're fun and easy lures to work. Your friend can watch the action the whole time and they're so exciting when the bite is on. Good Luck! Quote
Dex Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 wacky rigged stick baits whats that? Sorry - Still learning Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 http://www.probassfishing.ca/tackle/senkoworm.html O-rings and nails are optional. I personally never use them. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 8, 2007 Super User Posted August 8, 2007 Take a Stick bait (Trick stick, Yum dinger, Senko) and run a 1/0 to 3/0 hook through the middle of it. Cast, twitch, repeat. Very easy. That is obviously a very simplified version of it, but sometimes thats when you catch the best fish. KISS Keep It Simple, Stupid. Wayne Quote

Super User FishTank Posted September 24, 2007 Super User Posted September 24, 2007 I have to go with a Mepps Inline spinnerbait in any of the Black Fury colors. I had to pick a second I would go with a 5in Senko with a 4/0 EWG hook. Quote
Mass_Bass Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Spoons and Inline Spinnerbaits are what I started out on. Very easy. Quote
