Super User 5bass Posted September 22, 2007 Super User Posted September 22, 2007 Yesterday I took a little road trip to a tackle shop that I've never been in that carries high end stuff...."Craw" put me onto this shop. Anyway, I went in looking for another Helium spinning rod and the shop was fresh out. The guy behind the counter says, "I got plenty of Loomis rods back there" but I told him that I havent bought a Loomis in 7 or 8 years and I was looking to add to my Helium supply. I grabbed a few things I needed and went to checkout....the guy says, I'll cut you a great deal on a Loomis/Sahara combo which he conveniently had sitting behind the counter. It was an IMX SJR782 with a brand new Sahara hanging on it. I picked it up and waved it around a little and it felt pretty good so I ask him how much for the combo. He grabbed his calculator and started punching #'s and comes up with $200 flat for both. The Loomis sticker on the rod handle said $235 and the Sahara's sell for $60 pretty much everywhere so I told him to ring 'em up! Brought 'em home, put the Sahara back in its box and put a Pflueger Supreme 8035MG on the IMX. I used it all day today and must say, it's pretty sweet. I can see myself buying some more in the near future and the guy says that he sells Loomis below retail every once in a while. That is all he needed to say. He's going to love seeing me pull into the parking lot! ;D Quote
idiot1 Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 That's a very nice rod and you should be quite happy with it, especially for what you paid for it! ;)Last week I took home an SJR722 in IMX, which is pretty much the same rod, but 6'. ;D While it is the most sensitive and lightest rod I have, I could nitpick about the fit and finish and the quality control compared to my Avid. I won't though, because for the price I paid, I really have no right at all to complain. 8-) Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 23, 2007 Super User Posted September 23, 2007 Wow, what a great deal. Enjoy the rod. What are you going to do with the Sahara? Quote
SneakySnook Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Wish I lived near you so I can get that deal. Quote

lubina Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Congrats, it is a great rod, good luck with it Quote
Super User flechero Posted September 23, 2007 Super User Posted September 23, 2007 That's a great guy to know, but don't give out his info except to close friends... I personally know of 2 different shops that were cut off for selling Loomis at a discount. Granted, that was several years ago but, I assume by the uniform pricing that the policy remains... ? Quote
Guest avid Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 True about that Loomis pricing policy. I was only able to get one shop to discount a rod. All my other Loomis rods were purchased at below MSRP on ebay, but from different sellers. Loomis seems pretty serious about wanting to protect it's price points and it's retailers. Quote
idiot1 Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I can't complain about it. I work at a smaller shop, and the policies that St. Croix and G. Loomis have in place help us to compete with the big guys. If they didn't have those policies, we sure wouldn't be as eager to sell one, and might even stop carrying them completely. On that note, the place I work has completely dropped Berkley products except Trilene, due to the fact that we simply cannot compete with Walmart and other places. Ironically, the same people who complained about our prices on Berkley products and threatened to stop shopping at our store, are now the same ones complaining that we don't have it. Quote
The_Natural Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Now you're talking. Your Heliums might get lonely ;D 8-). I'd keep them separated...they might brawl in your rod locker Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Nice pickup dude. You will love that rod. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 24, 2007 Super User Posted September 24, 2007 Great rod, great deal. Congratulations! 8-) Quote
boatlesswonder Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Yeap, same thing happened with quality camera equipment, everyone went to the local camera shop to look and touch, but ordered from new york. Now its look on the internet and buy where they have a good return policy. I'm lucky BPS and Gander Mtn are close, and cabelas is supposed to be opening up soon just south of here. Most of the local stores only carry bottom middle stuff. Still havent seen a stella except at BPS and just drolled. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted September 26, 2007 Super User Posted September 26, 2007 Congratulations man! Good deal. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted September 26, 2007 Super User Posted September 26, 2007 5BL, That's a great rod, I have the SJ722. You will enjoy it for sure. Just be careful, you just might be tempted to hang a Straidic or a Sustain on it. I would hate to see you ridin with RW's posse. Ronnie Quote
