TripDaddy Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 What does everyone think would be the best worm rig under $300? The reel can cost up to $200 and the rod up to $100. The only other requirement that I have is that the rod be 6'6" or shorter. Thanks in advance, Jason Quote
idiot1 Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Spinning or casting? Either way, I'd go for an Avid (on sale for around $100 all over the place, if you can still find one). Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I would say the best worm rig for under $300 would be a G Loomis IMX MBR843C (I got on eBay for $165) and a Daiwa Fuego (I got on the Flea Market section for $135). Now, if you are not willing to search for the deals, then I would say your best bet is to purchase a Shimano Curado 100D ($165.00 at Delo's - http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocurado.html) and probably a Shimano Crucial CRC-66MH ($129.99 at Cabelas, Bass Pro, and other locations). With tax on the rod, this will put you slightly over $300, but you will have one nice set-up. Though, I personally would spend more on a rod for a worm set up. If I were you, I would get a G Loomis IMX MBR783C (retail for $235.00) and a Abu Garcia Revo SC (right now on sale at Cabelas for $79.99). This would put you $15 over your budget (plus taxes), but you will think you died and went to Heaven fishing this set-up. That's just my humble opinion on the subject. Quote

Super User Catt Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 Shimano Calcutta CT100B: $189 Falcon LowRider XG Casting LFC-6-166 Worm N Classic: $105 It has plenty of back bone and an extra fast tip, making it a good choice for worms Quote
TournyFish001 Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 with that budget the possibilities are almost endless- you are going to get many different replies- anything particular you have been partial to in the past maybe? Quote
Super User David P Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 Spend $200 on the rod an $100 on the reel. Can get a Citica or Stradic depending if you want spinning or BC for $100 and then have $200 for a nice rod. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I agree with Brokejaw- spend more on the rod- the Citca he speaks of is a very nice reel for the price. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 Another vote for less on the reel and more on the rod. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 The deal of the year: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1189997410/11#11 I was going to suggest this setup but RW got to it before I did. Before they clearanced this setup, it would have cost you around $300. so at $150 it's a steal. The St. Croix Avid AS68MXF is great for worms, small jigs and the Fat Ika. The Stradic 2500 is a solid reel, smooth but not supper smooth, strong when needed, and it cast well. This reel also balance well with AS68MXF. They only downside to the Stradic was that I had to remove two washers to keep it from backlashing when I used soft plastic. Quote
Super User David P Posted September 19, 2007 Super User Posted September 19, 2007 I agree with Brokejaw- spend more on the rod- the Citca he speaks of is a very nice reel for the price. I loved my Citica, until I got a Curado. Both felt just as smooth and casted roughly the same, BUT, Size wise, I liked the 100D. To me, a rod is MUCH more important, and seems like a few others agree. Quote
TripDaddy Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 UPDATE: As always, thanks for the info. I ended up going with a 6'6" Shimano Compre spinning rod (MH / F) and a Shimano Sahara 2500FB reel. The whole package ran about $160. I would love to hear what everyone thinks about this setup. Good or bad. Thanks, Jason Quote
Super User Tin Posted September 25, 2007 Super User Posted September 25, 2007 Abu Garcia Torno 3006 hsi $100 new off ebay, St. Croix 6'6" medium heavy premier casting rod $100 anywhere. Its a pretty light rig and as for sensitivity. It is all about how in tune YOU are with what your bait is doing. Quote

Super User senile1 Posted September 25, 2007 Super User Posted September 25, 2007 Another vote for less on the reel and more on the rod. And another one. Spend more on the rod. Have you checked them out? Quote
