Shimano Citica or Cardiff????

Which one of these reels would be the best for jig fishing??? And which one would give the least ammount of backlash problems in doing so???

I have the cardiff 301 and I like it for what I use it for. I dont have the citica and it does have the HEG. I think it would be very useful for bigger fishes. The one thing I dont like about the cardiff is you have to take off the handle plate to adjust the brakes.

My jig setup is a Cardiff CDF100A on a Daiwa TD-V701MHRB

First I like round reels over low profiles because of the way they fit my hands.

Second I've caught numerous bass to 10 pounds along with dozens of big bull red fish and have yet to experience a single problem. Many people prefer higher speed gear ratios but I prefer lower gear ratios for more power and at 5.8:1 I get plenty of power plus just enough speed. I set all my brakes on the Cardiff and my Calcutta's once and never change them again

 Have never fished a Cardiff so take this with a grain of salt . I have the Citica (200D) on a 6'M Bionic Blade and really like it. Catt, I know, puts more hours and catches larger fish on his rig than I do on mine. The funny thing is he likes his for just the opposite reason I like mine. I have large hands and still like the low-profile for the way I can palm it and like the higher speed 6.3:1 on the Citica. Go figure ;D!!!

i wuv my citica:) its good for what ever i decide to use it for, cranks, plastics, jigs, spinners, what ever!!!

+1.  It also depends on what you want.  Gear ratio, weight, size, etc.  I would go with the citica.  I love mine for all around fishing.

I have and have used both the Cardiff and the old and new style Citicas a good deal. In my opinion there is not much difference between the performance of a reel with a ratio of 5.8:1 and a reel with a ratio of 6.2:1. There is a good deal of difference between the new Citica with the super free feature and the Cardiff, which I don't think has the super free. The Citica casts and pitches much better IMPO. Backlash control with either free depends entirely on setting the reel up properly for you. Another issue would be whether you prefer round or low profile reels. This depends on your hand size among other things. As far as power goes, the gearing in the new Citica is both big and robust. This, in connection with the HEG features gives you a very strong and powerful reel. I use the new Citica for virtually every application. They offer great value - a great performing reel at a great price.

If I were you, I'd buy a bamboo pole and some rope and then I would buy the citica and give it to your fishing partner.  I hear he is the next big thing !

It 's all in the thumb, it 's always been that way and it will always be that way.

Seen the DC reels ? well, not even those are backlash free, I know it and they do make pretty good backlashes too ..... haven 't found the baitcaster I can 't backlash.

Like Raul said, there is no baitcaster backlash free, a well educated thump can make a big difference with any reel.

I have the 301 which I use for my heaviest swimbaits, I have it heavily in use for the last couple of years, the reel is a work horse, cast like a dream and is very light, the frame has a tendency to scratch easily. It gets much better after you upgrade the ball bearing, drag washers and a good 4 bearings handle.

Now you are asking for jig fishing, this for me means pitching so I would rather use a faster reel.
