Boett43 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Any thoughts on a good jigging rod and reel? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 The basics are Heavy Power/ Fast Action. I prefer baitcasting gear for jig fishing, but spinning equipment is just fine. Of all your set-ups, this is the one where sensitivity comes into play the most. For specific advice, you need to set a price target to get useful responses. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 How big a jig, and where do you plan on throwing it? I prefer throwing 1/4 - 3/8 jigs on my MH baitcaster setup, Kistler MG69APC, Revo STX with 15lb Pline. For heavier jigs or or heavier cover, I throw on my Dobyns 704C with Zillion. Quote
Boett43 Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 I looking for a setup under 200$ right now and i mainly fish open water with rock ledges and some wood cover.. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 Although I'm a Shimano man, this looks like a great deal to me: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1190159017 The combination I'm suggesting is the Fenwick Tech AV & Revo for $160. Quote
Boett43 Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 Wow thanks alot that setup looks great and if it gets your approval i know its worth the $$ haha ...Thanks Big B Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 I fish a Techna AV and many of the guys on this Forum are all googgly over the new Revos. So, based my own personal experience (with Fenwick) and the excellent reviews from members (Revo), I think you'll be one happy camper! p.s. Don't tell ANYONE I recommended a Revo, especially fivebasslimit. : 8-) Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Most of my jiggin is with a 7'1" heavy powered rod. I wouldnt go below 7' imo. Quote
AJ Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Most of my jig fishing is with a 7 1/2 foot falcon flipping stick, 25 pound trilene big game, and shimano castaic. Handles every situation I come across, and can handle those pigs that bite the jigs. Quote
