Which Loomis rod????

I have finally had to admit the rod I am using for cranks isn't enough for some of the Spooks, bassoreno's, and larger cranks I have. So, right now I am looking at a few different rods. My guidelines are, Moderate-fast action, 17-20lb line, normally tossing 3/4 to 1oz lures with maybe a little bigger or smaller one once in a great while. Most likely the line will be braided with a floro leader.

I have picked out, so far:

Crankbait rod: CBR847C, CBR756C

Bronzeback: SMR814C-CB

Swimbait rod: SWBR955C (might be a little much???), SWBR904C

Suggestions???? Opinions???? If anyone knows of a real good Spinning rod that fit's, I'd look at that too. I would like spinning/Loomis, but there isn't such a thing. Custom is not out of the question, and might even be a more likely route. TIA.

Well, you need to work within the suggested parameters of the rod. So, that would mean 1/2 oz lures on the low side, but nearly everything except big swimbaits at the top end. It sounds like EXACTLY what you are looking for.

I listed that one first becouse I like the specs on it, but I wasn't sure if it was the real deal. I have one of their Walleye series rods, and I think there is some $$ added onto the rod just becouse it says "Walleye". It's priced in between the IMX's and GL3's, but I don't think it's any better than a GL3. I wasn't sure if the crankbait series was like that too.

I see the CB847 can be purchased as a blank. Can a casting blank be made into a spinning rod??? Maybe paired with a Pflueger 8035 Supreme reel???

Yes.  A casting Blank and a spinning blank are the same balnk.  You have to spline it.  The guides go on the outer part of the spline for baitcasting and on the inside for spinning.

Ok, thanks. Another question is, if I decide on that rod, go with a casting setup, and get just the blank, would I gain much by having custom guide's and handle/reel seat put on??? I like the Loomis handles, don't have much of an opinion either way on the guides, but the reel seat's don't impress me. I see they already changed the GLX guides and seats from this spring, maybe they changes the whole lineup???

Everyone that has these rods say they are their favorites, but the graphite composition seems to be "TOP SECRET." The G.Loomis website does not specifically address the question.

If I was going to start building rods again (stopped building about 7yrs ago) then I would use the bet guides and reel seat I could find. Even if I had to save $ for it.  Don't put junk components on a good blank.  Use atleast the same quality or above that Loomis uses.   Thats what I would recommend...

Careful, most companies do not use the same blanks anymore for casting and spinning.  The spinning blanks are usually softer through the middle.

I knew I shoulda kept my mouth shut..It's been about 7 yrs since I built rods so I'm sure thing have changed.
