Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 15, 2007 Author Super User Posted September 15, 2007 Where do i go to get an avid on clearance!?!?!? Quote
Super User David P Posted September 15, 2007 Super User Posted September 15, 2007 There's been 1,000 threads at least about Avids on sale. Go search. In the $100 range? Do you mean $100 max, or up to $199 ? Quote

Super User Micro Posted September 15, 2007 Super User Posted September 15, 2007 I recommend Team All Star IM10 rods. I have several of these and like them very much. These rods are extremely sensitive and very strong. You can spend several hundred more on a G Loomis or some other brand, but you won't get several hunderd more worth of sensitivity. http://www.allstarrods.com/as_teamfw.html Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 15, 2007 Super User Posted September 15, 2007 Add 20 more and get a GL2. Quote

Get a Gloomis GL2 like Raul said. What does the GL2 offer over the TAS IM10, except price? I like TAS rods and use them a lot. They are extremely sensitive and tough. Dsaavedra needs to decide whether he wants an extremely good, strong, sensitive rod, or he wants to pay a premium for a brand name. Quote
boatlesswonder Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Shimano Compre is a really good rod for around $100, but an avid on clearance is a great rod for that price. Quote

idiot1 Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I would try to find an Avid on sale, or try to become best friends with the guy who owns/runs your local G. Loomis or St. Croix dealer. My favorite rod right now is a toss up between my Avid and my IMX. There are things that I like about each, and each serves a slightly different purpose. A GL2 would be a good option too, but I'm not the biggest fan of the GL2 series. Even at the GL3 level, I'd probably still take an Avid. 8-) Quote
Super User flechero Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 I have to say, Loomis IMO, is a good value in IMX and GLX but the GL2 and GL3 are (again IMO) overpriced and undervalued. I'd go All Star over GL 2 & 3 everytime. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 The St.Croix Avid is a VERY good rod, well woth the $160 (+/-) retail offering. The current models are on sale for less than $100 some places, around $110 at BPS. Either way, this is a GREAT value. I would HIGHLY recommend a St. Croix Avid at the pricing point you are considering. Quote
-badhabit- Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Get a look see at GBlank - imaginationbassin.com/gblanksproducts.htm I agree with George 110%. I have 6 of them and couldn't be happier unless I had more of them. I have a lot of other rods like a couple Airrus, Kistler Heliums, All-Stars, etc... and they are all retired now since I started using G-Blanks. I would still be very satisfied if I had paid twice the price I did. Quote
Guest muddy Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 The HMX Fenwick would be my choice. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 17, 2007 Author Super User Posted September 17, 2007 thanks for the suggestions guys. i cant find the avids on sale anywhere. got a link? Quote
turkeyhunter2112 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 If I were you I would go with a falcon lowrider. Quote
LordRiper Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 And... what about Falcon Cara??? compared to a GL3 (i own 2) its a much better... Quote
Super User cart7t Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 Another vote for the Team All Stars. I had several of them before upgrading to AS Titaniums. The TAS rods were excellant for the money. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 On sale for $65 These are Bass Pro Shop's inhouse brands: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59070_100002006_100000000_100002000_100-2-6 Quote
BassPonder72 Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 If I were you I would go with a falcon lowrider. I was hoping someone would say that before i got to the end of this thread. Falcon makes great rods and if you happen to break one all you have to do is send the broken one in and presto you get a brand new one in about 10 days. i experienced their CS first hand in the spring and i give them a 10.
