Yo Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft is Awesome!

Roadwarrior thanks for the suggerstions on the Yo Zuri ultra soft.  I ordered some from Cabela's and spooled it up today.  I got 12lb that I paired up with a Shimano Curado 100D and a 783 GL2 G-loomis rod that I will use for jigs and soft plastics.  I also spooled up some 8lb on a Shimano Citica 100D and a 852 Mossyback G-loomis that I use to cast shakeyheads and small texas rigs.  Both lines casted extremely well, no memory, and the abrasion was very good.  I have expieremented with several lines for the past few months and for the money this seems to be the best choice for me.  I plan on using it on all of my other rods/reels as well.

What about "stretch"?  How does it compare to XT?  I'll buy the part about memory being better but I'm real skeptical of it being better then XT in anything else.  RW says it is, and he has me on the verge of buying it just to compare.  I really don't think I could give it a solid, impartial, fair test because I'm really stuck on XT.  However, I've read this enough times now I'm about to pull the trigger and try it anyway.

Ultrasoft is my line of choice too, very happy with it.  Great all around line.

It doesn't seem to come up on the Cabelas or Basspro websites when you search for it but I used the item number from a previous order and it came up that way.

Stretch is not an issue with Ultra Soft, but I do not know (technically) how is compares with XT.

I'll try some.  My only problem with XT is on spinning reels so I'll start there with the Yo Zuri.

How does the original Hybrid compare to Ultra Soft?  I didn't see any Ultra Soft at Cabela's last time I was there but they had Original.  Is the Original tougher yet?  More memory?

The lines have a different percentage of fluorocarbon vs. nylon. Less fluoro/ more nylon (Ultra Soft) reduces the memory in Ultra Soft to almost nothing. A higher proportion of fluoro (original Hybrid) has a refraction index closer to clear water. As far as I can tell, all other attributes are basically the same.

If you go #12 to #12 (XT to Hybrid) they feel pretty similar at first. (and in warm weather)  The XT will have memory problems first but the XT can withstand a few more backlashes and I think more abuse.  The ultra soft is a little softer than XT but as suggested, has less memory (better behaved) and I think a little less abrasion resistance.  If you go up to the #15 and #20, the Ultra soft and regular Hybrid begin to feel the same... and then I think XT is superior in all areas.  JMHO.

Some of this is subjective to your location.... here in the deep south where the temps are warm most of the time, XT isn't bad to deal with 9 months of the year....  XT is not a good cold water line.  Unless you enjoy playing with slinkies.  ...lol

One word of caution:

The thicker diameters of original Hybrid will "jump off" a spinning reel just like some of the pure fluorocarbons. I HIGHLY recommend #6 (11.9 lb test) for spinning tackle. Also, I have a VERY STRONG preference for Ultra Soft on spinning tackle, that's what it was really designed for.

I've looked all around town (Dick's, Gray's, and Wal-Mart) and none of them carry Yo-Zuri. Looks like an order from BPS, but it sure seems a waste to pay 3.95 shipping on a 7.99 spool of line.  :

The Yo Zuri ultra is a good line.  If I cannot get Sunline I will go with  Yo Zuri ultra soft.

Last time I checked they don't carry it. When I place my order for it, its going to have to go through cabelas.

I am looking into some new "cold weather" line for my jig rod. I usually use 17lb Pline CXX Xtra Strong, on my jig sticks. When the cold weather hits I usually go to 17lb BPS line. I'm curious how does the Yo-Zuri line handle in the cold weather. When I mean cold weather, I am from New Hampshire so cold is described ss fishing until the water gets hard.

Before I found Yo-Zuri I fished P-Line for two or three years. Memory and SEVERE coiling in cold weather was a BIG issue, even on baitcasting equipment. Yo-Zuri is not effected by temperature. If you like original Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft in warm weather, you will like it in the winter, too.

I agree with this- the line has pretty much no memory.  I have stored my boat outside and my rods in the boat rod locker- because I was inbetween houses- no garage.  But yeah the hybrid and ultra soft line I had on my reels and extra spools were the same as they were brand new- BTW here in southern Idaho we had 15 or 20 days of 100F heat while the boat was outside covered calling the rod locker a sauna would be a major understatement.
