Red Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 i have two of the same rod(berkley Bionix)...on the blank they read IM50-6-6M, 6'6" Medium Action, Lure 1/4-1, Line 10-25 IM16-6MH, Med. Heavy Action, Lure 3/8-3/4, Line 10-25 both are casting rods now the Med rod has a significantly thicker blank than the MH rod...both are, in my opinion, X-fast tips....why would the Med rod have a higher lure rating and thicker blank than the MH rod? does this have to do with the IM rating? the difference in length? Could either rod be mismarked? in my opinion the Med rod feels more powerful to me, was using the Med rod tonight and set the hook on a dink, he came right out of the water! i didnt set any harder than normal, this has never happened with the MH rod, or my other Med rod....i dont know much about the IM rating and all of that, but in my hands the Med rod feels like a more powerful rod.....any thoughts? thanks Cliff Quote
Super User cart7t Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 A medium action rod rated to 25lb test line and 1oz lures? hmmm... somethings not right there. Example, I have an original All Star Classic MBR. 7', med, extra fast action. It's a 1/4-3/4 with a 10-20lb rating. Somethings wrong with the markings on that rod I suspect. Are you sure an H may have been scratched off of the 6'6" rod? Quote
Red Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 nope, i just double checked, plus it is dang near brand new...there is not even room for an "H" between "medium" and "action" sounds like maybe the Med rod is actually MH and the MH rod is actually Med...i dont know its not really a big deal...i really like both rods...i think for a $50 rod they are great....currently i use the MH rod for jigs and the Med rod for t-rigs...maybe i will just switch uses for them, i usually throw jigs to havy cover so it would make sense to use the more powerful rod for that thanks Cliff Quote
dbass Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The IM ratings on your rods, only mean that the one rod with the higher IM rating, is built with a fiber that stretches more than the other The main difference between the two rods is the length. 6" in tip length can change a lot of things along with blank taper, in a rod... I doubt any of your rods are miss marked... Tight Lines!!!! Quote
