I've never fished one as all my Shimano rods are Compres or Crucials but I have handled them and they seem to be a good rod for $$. They also have the same "over the counter" warranty as the Compre and Crucial.

RoadWarrior has a pretty good informational thread posted in the "Important Topics" section above about rod action and power that should help to decipher the designations.

what do you mean by "over the counter" warranty???  the convergence has a lifetime warranty...thats pretty cool.

Over The Counter Warranty = If you break your rod take it to your local dealer and they are supposed to replace it on the spot. It's a lifetime warranty. Other rod companies have you send the rod in and pay a replacement fee, Shimano doesn't do that on the life time warranty rods.

oh ok....well by the sounds of it i think a over the counter lifetime warranty would be better! but what happens if you order it online?

You return it to Shimano and get a new rod.

wait, when you say take it to your local dealer, does that mean the place you bought it? or could u buy it anywhere, and just take it to a place that sells them?

No, the most you would pay would be the shipping.

Up my way i have 2 shimano dealers they replace any rod over the counter wether u bought it from them or not .A lot depends on your dealer im thinking cause i have heard other dealers not doing this BUT still order a rod of the same action/model etc and then do the exchange .Ask your nearby dealers

This warranty is a myth. I broke a Crucial before and had problems returning it for this "over the counter" warranty. The real warranty is as follows. If you break the rod in the first year, you can get a replacement from where you purchased it if you have a proof of purchase (hence the "over the counter" part). Then after a year from the purchase date, you have to send the rod to Shimano (you pay shipping) and they will determine if it was broken due to a manufatures defect (I don't know how they do this). If they determine you broke to rod by accident (e.g., stepped on it, car door, etc.) then you have to pay repair or replacement costs. I have heard they are a little liberal on this, but I still think that G Loomis Rods and Cabelas Brand Rods have the best warranties I have every seen (I assume Bass Pro Rods may have a good warranty policy as well, but I never tested it out). That is why I stick with these two brands of rods.

If you break a rod for any reason, you take it to Cabelas and they tell you to go get another one off the rack and they exchange it with no questions asked. One rod I had, my nephews stepped on and broke off the tip of the rod. I took it back (with no proof of purchase) and in 3 minutes, I had a new rod. Another time I went in to replace the top guide (my girlfriend wound up a lure way to hard against the end and the ceramic tip came out) and the guy at Cabelas told me not to waste my time trying to fix it and exchanged it for a brand new one. To me that is what I call "over the counter" warranty. B.T.W. Cabelas XML rods are great rods (I currently have 8 of them and if they go on sale, I will be getting a few more).

Broke my Clarus yesterday. Was walking along a steep bank, stepped on a loose rock, slipped and the tip broke in three pieces against a rock.  :-[ Doubt Shimano would cover it, any ideas? Didn't buy it at a big chain like Cabelas, nor have the proof of purchase.

thats some awesome customer service there at cabelas!!!! only thing is, there are no cabelas around here that i could take it to to get it replaced. can you send them the rod?

as for your clarus, i'd say call them up and tell them what happened and ask if they can cover it.

BassPro replaced a broken Compre for me, no questions asked, no receipt needed. Sportsmans Warehouse and another locally owned shop will do the same thing. I've heard that Cabelas will also but have no personal experience with them on rod returns.
