ThomasL Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Looking to upgrade a sjr721 gl3 loomis i have used a couple of times,i have a glx in the same rod that is quite a bit stiffer in the same light action and am looking at the imx in the same model if not maybe stepping to the 6'6" model,In that 200+ range would you consider the fenwick techna-v ? :-? Super User Sam Posted September 7, 2007 Super User Posted September 7, 2007 Hi, Don't use the Fenwick rods. Have you considerd a Kister? Their helium rods are excellent. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 7, 2007 Super User Posted September 7, 2007 I 'd say stick to what: you know, I 've got the SJR723 in IMX and I love it, stiff enough to handle power baits ( 3/8 oz =< ) but forgiving enough to handle smaller baits, if you want to go lighter ( more finesse ) then go for the SJR722, it 's more forgiving than the 723 and a really fun rod to fish with, even a dink feels like a 10 pounder , I like the rod so much that I even have it in it 's trigger sibling ( CR722 ) paired to one of my Pixys. ThomasL Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 Raul i had the casting 6' light action can't remember model but it was much different than its supposed spin-jig counterpart.I forgot to ad the gl3 was fine for smaller baits and panfishing, matter of fact this is the rod the wife uses but if i have her using small spinnerbaits and bagleys honey-b's that is why i am moving away from the light gl3.,i could put the reel she uses on my glx 721 but one i would cringe everytime she'd pick that $300+ rod up to use it and second i could do the above and buy me a sjr722 medium spinner but i have two 6' casting glx's now even though the ratings are different,8-14 lb line,to 5/8 oz lures on the casters and 6-12 lb line 1/8-3/8 oz ratings on the spinjig rod? Super User Raul Posted September 7, 2007 Super User Posted September 7, 2007 Yup, those are the ratings on the SJR722 ( 6-12 lbs test, 1/8-3/8 oz lures ) . Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 7, 2007 Super User Posted September 7, 2007 I'd stay with the Loomis IMX or you might try a St. Croix Legend Tournament rod like the TBC68MXF. They should be on clearance soon if not already. Quote
ThomasL Posted September 10, 2007 Author Posted September 10, 2007 Anyone own a american rodsmiths rod? Quote
