Reel not properly fitting in the seat?

Hey guys, I saw in the Kistler thread that someone had a problem with their reel not fitting snug and tight in the reel seat.

I just got a GLX 844C with a Curado 100D, and am having the same problem.

It's not MAJOR, as sometimes it feels perfectly snug and tight, but every so often I can feel just a small slip where it feels loose.

Is this a defect in the reel seat, or is there any easy fix?

I have the same problem with my G Loomis and Curado 100 D.  My solution, I just made a habit of checking to see if the reel seat screw down is tight and if it isn't, I tighten it.  Haven't had a problem since I got into this habit.

Yes there is an easy fix: electrical tape, a small piece of electrical tape on the back reel foot will solve the problem.

But there 's absolutely no reason and no excuse for the reel foot not seating PEFECTLY TIGHT in a rod of that price, hell, not even in a 50 dollars rod. If I were you and could solve so easily my problem with my Kistlers I would send or take the rod back, got CR721, CR722, CR723, MBR783 in GL2, IMX and GLX and all my reels fit perfectly, reels that include Scorpion 1000, Scorpion 1000 Mg, Cronarch 50 Mg which share exactly the same frame ( and same reel foot ) with the CU100D.

I think part of the reason my sometimes come loose is because I am affraid of tightening it down too much.  I'm sure it is strong enough, but I don't want to crack the reel down screw (I heard someone did this by tring to tighten the screw down with pliers).

The reel seat problem is due to an old style Fuji seat (ECS) that had rear hood issues. The newer models of Fuji seats (ECS II) have dealt with this problem. If I had a Loomis rod that the reel wouldn't tighten down on I would exchange it, and, keep on doing so until I did get a good fitting reel seat on my rod.

The easy fix is like Raul suggested a piece of tape on the rear of the reels foot.

And I remember when people blasted the guy at Kistler for suggesting the electrical tape to fix the reel seat issues......

I went out and used the rod/reel for the second time, I just tightened down a bit extra, and all was fine, didn't have a single problem.

Only one small fish on the new rod, DAMNIT!

I had the same problem with my curado 100d and my gl2....It feels weird when screwing it down but i havnt had the reel come loose yet while reeling in fish.

imho,bass pro rods have the best reel seats.they are never loose.

imho, zebco 33 rods have the best reel seats. With that screw, they are never loose

I have never experienced or even heard of this problem before, but as ReelMech suggests, TAKE IT BACK! I would NOT consider "fixing" a brand new G.Loomis.

Ohhh sorry RW that should have been a response to the Kistler comment...

But even so, If I had a Loomis® rod and the reel didn't seat properly ,the rod would go back and keep doing so until they got it right, and I didn't have to wrench a reel into the seat..

I have seen this problem across many forums ..too be the lightest most sensitive rod it must have to have a loose reel seat,,either that or the reels are made for megabass rods. My Clarus rods might not be the lightest but i never have to worry about my reel flying off during a hookset

you know I am glad you brought this up- kinda a weird deal... I have a kistler magnesium and a curado 100d mounted on it- I swear every now and then the reel slips back in the seat- after reeling in I will check it and all feels tight- kinda weird??? yeah I swear I got that thing locked down with all my strength suprised I have not busted the handle yet- now I will try the Electrical tape deal- thanx for the tips

Actually the reel won 't come off from the real seat on the hookset, what the lossenes causes is that it makes the rod rotate when it reaches the end of the hood, something that happens in a split second and it really takes you by surprise.

Mine slips (on 1 of my Kistlers) maybe an 1/8th of an inch and it slides to the side, not back and forth. When it moves it does give you that feeling but as long as everything is tightened down, the reel wont fly off.....there's no way it can. That 1/8th of an inch feels like a WHOLE LOT more than it actually is.

I'm starting to wonder if it's the Curado 100 D that has the problem. I have 6 G Loomis rods and the only one that I every had a loose reel on was the one rod that had the 100 D on it.

I thought that too, look at everyone that's had problems. It's all be the Curado 100D that has had the problem. I just got a Revo SX , well I'm picking it up tomorrow, but yah. I'll let you guys know how it fits in the seat.

It might very well be.  All of my other reels will not slip on my Kistler Mg but that TD-Z would.   I don't care what ya fish or who makes it,  there will be problems in all of them.

Ok, I picked up my Revo SX today instead of tomorrow to get to the bottom of this problem.

The Revo sits perfectly in my loomis rod, and feels excellent. Doesn't move what so ever, and I hardly had to tighten it down at all.
