I have not seen much regarding the rods and reels sold by cabelas. I would assume most of their equipment is made by another manufacturer such as diawa making the cabelas brand reels. Do you guys know who makes their rods. They have several different lines of rods...anyone have any experience with them. thanks

I got their tournament ZX 7.0:1 reel with the heavy rated rod..so far no problems with them...i got them early this year.I use the reel strictly for spinners, buzzbaits and occasionally burning crankbaits. The rod i use for jigs....i did that on purpose that i needed a jigging rod in heavy action and the reel for another setup. The guy couldn't understand why i wanted a burner reel with a jigging rod...lol.Little did he know i wasn't gonna pair them..i did it because it was alot cheaper to go that way for me.I didn't expect them to last long, gave them quite abuse and they are still holding up.

I'm not quite sure who makes Cabelas Rods, but I really like the Cableas XML series (not so much the XML Ti). There are only two rods I mainly use. Cabelas XML (I have 8 of them) and G Loomis. I have found that these two companies not only have very sentive, lightweight rods that are nice to fish with, they also have great warranty policies. You can just take you XML rod to Cabelas and exchange it for another one for any reason. You don't even need a receipt. I can't say more about these rods (except that I plan on getting two more this fall when there are sales).

I was looking for a MH spinning and settled on the Salt Striker series.  Even though it is a salt water

rod it felt better, lighter, and more balanced than the freshwater counterpart.  I broke the tip off of it, my fault, while trying to undo a snag.  I didn't return it, just glued a new tip on it.

I have several Cabela's PT Fly Combos and am extremely happy with them. As for BC/Spin gear, the only rods I have are the E-Glass series. I wanted a few inexpensive fiberglass 2-piece rods and Cabela's had them on sale for 14.99. I bought 3(6'6" M spinning, 6'6" M casting, and 6'6" ML casting) since I travel alot and wanted a selection that did not break the bank. These are great rods, a little rough around the edges, but perform well for 2-pieces. The 6'6" M casting has become one of my 3 main rods. It is great for shallow to medium crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I will probably be purchasing more of Cabela's gear in the future, I really like the ProGuide IM6 series, especially the price.

I'm glad someone asked this question. I love cabelas and do a lot of business with them. In the past year I bough 5 rods, 5 reels, and a trolling motor. I use the Cabela's whuppin stick glass rods for cranks. They are very sensitive for glass, and they are tough. Great choice for anyone who needs a cranking stick without breaking th ebank. only 19.99-24.99

I also want to get a couple ProGuides and a Fish Eagle 2 since they have MH and H rated spinning rods.

I would highly recommend the Cabelas XML (not the XML Ti) spinning rod.  One of the best spinning rods I have ever seen.

To further gather information, what is the difference between say their tourney trail rods at 59.00. fish eagle II at 79.00, and then the XML line at 139.00 besides about 80.00. I do not mind spending money on quality, but as a beginning fisherman, what kind of advantage does a 140.00 rod give me that the 59.

00 or 79.00 rod does not???? I have read road warriors post about rods but do not see enough information on cabelas website that would help me anwer this question. Furthermore, does anyone know who makes cabelas spinning reels??? Does Diawa make all thier baitcasting reels?? Thanks so much for all your help. This is a great place to learn.

Not all Cabela 's house brand reels are manufactured by Daiwa, the ones that are manufactured by Daiwa can be recognized easily and you know the base Daiwa model upon which they were are built, for ex the Fish Eagle Tournament II is built on the Daiwa PT100, the Procaster SE is built on the Daiwa PR100, the Prodigy is built on the Daiwa Advantage, the Revo SC is built on the Abu Revo S. There are some minor differences between the base model and the house brand model but in esence they are the same reel.

As for the rods, you get what you pay for, higher prices mean higher quality in the materials used on manufacturing the rod, better guides, better seat, lighter rod, more sensitive rod. Hard to explain without having the rods in your hands.

anyone else use their rods or reels??? I am an hour from cabelas and love going there. Specifically, does anyone have any experience with their gold label rods? they are normally 49.00 on sale for 19.00?

also, their tournament zx reels are 39.00 and 59.00 down from 69.00 and 89.00??? any information on any of these items would be appreciated.

I keep a gold label in back of the seat on my pickup with a Pflueger Trion #30 on it for pond fishing. GREAT ROD for 20 bucks I have the 6'6" med action, and it breaks down so i have it with me all the time

I loved the last Prodigy Baitcaster , it was made by Pinnacle, still have one and it takes a lickin and keeps tickin

I bought the New zx model, on sale, I didn't use it long enough to form an opinion, my friend wanted to learn how to bait cast and I gave it to him I liked the reel but only fished it a hanfull of times. 40 bucks i would jump on it: Aluminum frame.smooth drag and external brake adjustment!

I wanted to buy an Eagle II, we have a Cabella's near us to. I liked the feel of it . But Fenwick makes and IM-6 Rod the EAGLE GT , I think it's better made and it is 30 bucks cheaper. I am getting one this winter, the last one I had is with the reel I gave to my Buddie

Most everthing else is out of my range budget wise, at least for the next year or two. Thanks for all the help so far.

I have a 6'6" MH Fish Eagle II spinning rod I was given as a gift last year.  I haven't used it very much yet but it's a decent stick I guess.  I like the action/power of it, the sensitivity is as good as some more expensive rods I own.  The only thing that bugs me about it is the reel seat screws down from the front and I prefer they screw down from the rear.  It's not a big deal I guess but just leaves a gap in front of the reel I'm not used to.

I'm going to Cabela's today to pick up a new 6' MH spinning rod.  I'm hoping to find a Shimano Crucial this time but will have a look at XML's.

Just wondering what the difference is between the tourney trail at 59.00 dollars, the fish eagle II at 79.00, and then the large jump to the XML at 139.00? any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

If that is your price range i can tell you because I have used all 3 products; The BPS IM 7 rod is better than the Cabela's in that price range and the FENWICK EAGLE GT blows them both out of the water

I forget the name of the rod but my friend Ron bought a Shimano Rod at that price it also is an excellent option you may want to look into. I am partial to the Fenwick, thats just my personal choice however.

thanks Muddyman, that is the type of information that I need. I have only been fishing for a few months and there are so many different options out there. I am partial to cabelas because of there liberal return policy....if you are unhappy, they will make it right, but I also want to get the best bang for my buck.

Well, this most likely won't help much, but I got a couple E-glass Cabela's roods a couple years ago for the other halfs kids to abuse. They have held up quite well.

I am watching Cabelas too. Ihave been wanting to switch 2 rods I was going all the way back to all Fenwick Rods and one Custom Wrap I have from Alpster. I had a change of heart, every time I go to Cabelas I pick up an Eagle II and say someday Next time they put them on sale someday is coming ::o

I have no experience with the Eagle II , I just want one. The Eagle GT: I don't care what anyone says about this statement but the worse the move I made was getting rid of my GT's and going to the St Croix Premiers. I am not gonna argue what rod is best those days and discussions are over for me. I really like my Fenwicks and since I am the  one thats fsihing with them i don't give a rat'z a#@#&&XZZ

anymore about all this crap. If someone needs  my experience I give it, but the upgrang thing is out of hand' So The Eagle GT's are great rods and bring me a lot of enjoyment.
