Red Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 checked out some rods at academy tonight....i looked at the allstar classic, the falcon original, castaway, and an american rodsmiths rod...all four were in the $50 range....i have heard plenty about allstar and falcon, but i have never heard of the other two brands....i picked up several rods in each brand and i think i like the american rodsmiths rod the best...anyone have any info on castaway or american rodsmiths...it would be much appreciated the allstar, falcon and american rodsmiths all have fuji guides(i think), not sure about the castaway..anyway let me know what ya think about these rods Cliff Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 7, 2007 Super User Posted September 7, 2007 I work for Academy and presently own 2 CastAway rods; they have Fuji guides, I think every rod manufacture uses them. Now keep in mind they are not the $49.99 rods but they are outstanding rods and have served me will. Castaway CSAP68 Sport Series Med. Heavy All Purpose Length: 6' 8 Line Class: 10 to 17 lbs. Lure Weight: 5/16 to ¾ oz. Castaway CSB66 Medium Heavy Bait Cast Length: 6' 6 Line Class: 8 to 14 lbs. Lure Weight:¼ oz to 5/8 oz. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 7, 2007 Super User Posted September 7, 2007 I have two American Rodsmith rods. They are boat glass rods for cranking and they are great. Quote

Not every........Kistler does not, St Croix does not on the Premiers and Triumphs, Fenwick does not on the HMX, or Eagle GT. Thats all I know of off the top of my head. I have no problem with the Fenwick guides, been using them for years with no problems, can't speak on the kistlers, never used one. I can say with conviction, as I have used and owned both St Croix's, that the guides used are poor and I don't like them. Quote
