fish-fighting-illini Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I noticed this a while back. In this link ( if it works ) check out where they have 2 versions of BPS Extreme combo's side by side. One is for $119 and the others are $69. The reel part #'s are slightly different than the ones in the 2007 catalog. The rod part# is not even close to the extreme part#'s in the catalog. Here's the link http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Subclass_10151_-1_10001_1000030 01_100000000_100003000_image__?CMID=FILN_OS_RODREELCOMBOS_BAITCASTCOMBOS BPS is confusing the heck out of me. Not to mention the WOO Davies signature editions adds to the cunfusion. What's up with the major idfference in pricing? I thought about buying a combo but not sure what I'd be getting. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 THE CHEAPER ONES COME WITH THE REELS MADE UP TO 2006 IN 2007 THEY ADDED 2 MORE BALL BEARINGS. I HAVE THE OLDER MODEL REEL AND IT IS A GREAT REEL FOR THE BUCK I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU Quote
HomersTomaco Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Its also not an extreme rod on the cheaper one. Quote

fish-fighting-illini Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 Muddy maybe what you got when you stopped in was some sort of in-store special? The rod you posted in this post the XTR66MT is a part# in the catalog for the extreme rod. Your link and my link both point to a combo with a PG60MT rod which doesn't jive with Extreme rod part# series. Trout may be on to something that maybe in the links it is an extreme reel ( the reel at least has a similar par# scheme as the cat) but maybe it is not an extreme rod. Doesn't matter just curious what BPS was up to. BPS sure as heck is confusing now matter how you lok at it. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 yOU THINK THATS CONFUSING THE dAVID fRITTS OLDER MODEL IS SOLD OUT AND THEY HAVE IT IN THEIR NEW FLYER :-? Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 So if a guy was to have a David Fritts maybe he could trade it for 2 Woo Davies and a Rick Clunn? LOL Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 11, 2007 Super User Posted April 11, 2007 That organization is so big the left hand doesn't always know what the right hand is doing. Lots of times the ad people and the purchasing people aren't on the same page. Another thing you may be seeing is some of their rods can only be purchased in combos. You never see them on a shelf. Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Hey Jigman; I m not knocking BPS I shop there frequently. I was trying to get the rod #'s to show the rod by punching them into the keyword/number search function and they wouldnt come up. You are 100% correct that those are a line of rods only sold as part of combos thanks for explaining that it was driving me crazy. It also brought up that I have to check and make sure of the rod coming with the combo. thats easier when picking one up at one of their stores like I did, gotta be more careful on line Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I was stoked when I saw that combo for $69...But on closer inspection, while the rod appears to be a BPS extreme (zoom in on the picture and you can read it yourself) --- it's obviously not the 70 million modulus, Woo Daves extreme rod. It still may be an excellent rod for the money, but that's the most misleading ad I've ever seen from BPS. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 11, 2007 Super User Posted April 11, 2007 I got one of those you can't buy 'em rods as a gift with a Stradic once. I was letting a guy use it last year and he broke it on the first cast. He said he would buy me a new one so I called Bass Pro and told them the story stating that the rod was several years old. The reply was he can not buy that rod but if he will bring the broken one in we will replace it free. They are kind of cheaply made but they seem to have a lifetime warranty, at least in the main store. Quote
boatlesswonder Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 PG60MT some one has these on ebay all the time both spinning and casting says extreme, little leary though. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 The one combo has the BPS Extreme rod (which has a 70 million modulus) and the cheaper combo comes with a BPS Extreme Performance rod (which is an IM8 or 45 million modulus rod). I am not a fan of the newer BPS Extreme Performance rods (I do like the older models). I would suggest getting the $119 combo, because the rod is much nicer. Quote
Cephkiller Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I have four of the Extreme XPS rods in my rod locker and I use them all the time. I have one of the XPS Extreme Performance rods and it has been in my garage for two years. There's a reason for this. Quote
