3125gauge Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Has anyone tried the vicious fluorocarbon or copolymer line? If so what were each of them like? You know the usual - abrasion resistance, memory, castablity, stiff, limp, etc. Quote
basspro48 Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Isn't vicious the same thing as the Mossy Oak line? I'm pretty Mossy Oak branched out and changed the name of their line to vicious...but I have never used or heard anything about it. Quote
tbird Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I just got some 8# and some 12# Vicious fluorocarbon, from the reports I have heard it was anywhere from terrible to very good.I am going fishing Thursday ,I will post results. T Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted August 28, 2007 Super User Posted August 28, 2007 ...from the reports I have heard it was anywhere from terrible to very good. Now we've got it narrowed down. Your comment just struct me as clever and funny. I'll look forward to reading your report and hearing what you have to say. Good luck! 8-) Quote
TournyFish001 Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I bought 550yrds for the 8lb flourocarbon from tackle warehouse used it all- it is very strong and abrasion resistant- although it is very stiff- do not use it on spinning tackle- it is the stiffest line I have ever been around- on baitcasting reels it is just fine and I really like it- very economical. the strongest flourocarbon I have been around Quote
bpm2000 Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I use the 10lb fluro as leader material on my braid spools - very strong/abrasion resistant as stated. Tried to use one on a whole spool and its so stiff that I ripped it all off. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 28, 2007 Super User Posted August 28, 2007 Doghouse tested some for our tackleshop a few months ago and he said it was right up there with Vanish. He said it was some of the worst stuff he had ever put on a reel. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 29, 2007 Super User Posted August 29, 2007 The stuff split like a banana peel when i broke off once...I'm uneasy about the stuff. Some people love this stuff, not me. Quote
tbird Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I tested the Vicious floro line today and here is what I have found. Testing was done with 12# test on an Alphas 103 F reel and a 6'6"M All Star rod. The line is very stiff and appears to have a larger diameter than other flurocarbon line I have used. The 12# felt like other floro's 14# line. The line did good for 3/8 oz spinnerbaits but did not cast as well as other brands 12#line , I expect the diameter had something to do with this. For worm fishing it did fine ,even tried it out in the rocks with a C/R . It appeared to have good overall abrasion reistance . I would not attempt to use this line on a spinning reel and would only suggest it for power fishing applications. I will continue to use my normal floro and use up the Vicious for TR worms etc... Hope this answers some questions. T Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted August 31, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted August 31, 2007 I'd recommend taking a wait-n-see approach with any of the Vicious line of products (they're coming out with more than just line soon). I've heard enough insider "gossip" that I wouldn't recommend them at the moment. Wish I could elaborate, but their lawyers might be lurking. Suffice to say, I'd put my trust in more established brands for now. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 It seems to me that it is unlikely that the line will change no matter how new the product- There is nothing wrong with this line, just use it where it excells- I like it with power techniques due to its stiffnesss/rigidness and it seems that you can get away with fishing a pound or two less than other brands in any given situation due to it being a bit larger in diameter across the board- kinda like the Yo-Zuri lines- Quote
