O.K. I got a more high tech combo(I bit the bullet Muddy cost $80 bucks) for me now

Its a Abu-G. and I admit I haven't used the anti-reverse yet. Seems loud to use :(

Is there anyone using their anti-reverse?  Is it worth it?

I also admit I don't know the (real) purpose for it. Is it really for your lure when you pause between cranking to avoid back lash  :-?

If it is seems noisy to use :-?

I think I know what its for but, I really don't want to keep going not using it if its got a real purpose, I guess I'm tired of faking it :-[

You mean in a spinning reel ?

Sorry Raul

Its a ambassadaur 6000 with the Berkley Lightning rod 6IM graphite 7'MH*1/4-1 1/4 lure, also how do I know what type of tip it is-Fast tip etc. :-? Or did I miss something here :-?

My mind has to have something repeated to retain :(

My man, I hope you don 't feel bad about me telling you this ..... what you call anti reverse is far from being so, it 's called a CLICKER and it 's job is to click to warn you when line is coming out of your reel like when having a bite or when you hang up when you are trolling.

yeah i was just gonna say, that sounds like a baitclicker. you flip it on, and it sets it so that the spool will rotate if line is pulled off with a light tension. its for live baitfishing, so you can sit the rod down and do other stuff. when a fish takes off w/ the bait, that thing starts clicking, you flip it off, and begin the fight!

What the devil are you talking about? :-?

Every reel made has an AR system (Anti-Reverse), it is the bearing system that keeps the handle cranking in one direction only. Spinning reels are the only reels made that you can turn it off on and use what is called back reeling.

Baitcasters back in the day use it but have since given up on them.

What model Abu Garcia® reel did you purchase :-?

Sounds like you need to try and read every bit of information you can about your reel, so that when you post we (especially I) will know what the devil your trying to say.

What you are describing is called the bait clicker, especially on a Garica 5000 series round reel and up.

Wow, :-?

That sure incourages me :-/

Is there a course I need to pass before I move on :-?

No problem Raul, respect for respect.

Bare with me on this-but Its really  a new one for me :-? seriously.

So-right above the the button it says

ON/OFF The origanle ANTI-REVERSE Gear Ratio 5.3:1.

I have no problem admitting not knowing, I learn from it.

Hey FB,

I've got a 6000 and the feature you're describing is the bait clicker. It has nothing to do with anti-reverse.

Anti-Reverse keeps the handle from turning in reverse and is pretty much standard on every baitcaster.

A bait clicker simply makes a noise to let you know that a fish is running with your bait.

That reel is a tank. It will outlive us both. :(

Thanks Fellas, I for one never forget where I started, I keep that in mind when I'm asked about something I'm good at or know and the others asking are not.

I'm one of those that teach myself, other than that its just this forum that can help me, theres alot of info I know I surley have no clue about but, to others its common sense.

But, really if every reel has a anti-reverse built in-then why in the heck would they word it right next to an ON/OFF button as if its a feature to turn on or off :-?

For someone not familiar with Higher-in tools seems a bit miss leading.

I know-they were bored and decided to miss with a green horn >:(

Now to really confuse things... I have a spinning reel that the clicker on/off and the anti - reverse are one and the same. Any time you wind it in it is click , click all the way. Turn it offf and the handle will run in reverse. It is a very old reel. Lets just say that the people who were assembling it were wearing bell bottoms and had long hair at the time.

Now for the kicker regarding the clicker............

The reel is an Abu Garcia!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Illini,

Is it a Kingfisher 44? I may have the same reel! I used to love the thing, now the thought of actually using it makes my hair stand on end....

click.click.click.click.click....no thanks. :(

You activate the clicker ( on ) when you troll or fish with bait as an alarm, as line pulls from the clicker it clicks, when you grab your rod and begin to reel in the line you deactivate the clicker ( off ), it 's important to deactivate the clicker, if you reel in with the clicker activated the clicker will suffer damage.

It 's feature found in most saltwater reels, in this case since the reel is big enough for some light saltwater and big freshwater fishing ( salmon, striper, catfish ) it comes with the feature.

I've a Abu 6000 baitcaster and the anti reverse doesn't work all the time .every now and the handle will go in reverse a quarter of a turn. Had it apart several times and can't figure it out. All the washers and parts are in correct compared to another one I have that doesn't do that.

Different problem that the original post from 13 years ago. The anti-reverse which some call a bearing, is actually a one way clutch that only allows the spool to turn open one direction. There are a number of rollers in it that lock up when trying to go in the opposite direction. If the rollers get dirty or get flat spots they can slip. You have to get to that bearing/clutch and clean it or replace it. Missing washers or parts installed in the wrong order aren’t the problem.

Remove AR bearing, clean in alcohol, let dry and reassemble with a half drop of oil on the sleeve. It sounds like you over oiled that bearing.

Yes^^ and Yes^^

I just had this issue with a Pro Qualifier.  Took the anti-reverse bearing out, washed it with brake cleaner, put it together dry (some say dry; some say light oil) and it works perfect now.
