Super User Alpster Posted August 26, 2007 Super User Posted August 26, 2007 KB, I throw spinnerbaits with my crankbait rod. Fiberglass (Lamiglas) 7' mod action MH power. I like to feel the blades turning. Bass usually hook themselves. Ronnie Quote

Bass usually hook themselves. Ronnie I concur with Ronnie! i did, however, buy an Airrus Specttra rod earlier this year, and found that I liked it for spinnerbaits as well, but you can't go wrong with a cranking stick. If you're familiar with the Avid line, see what they have to offer. I read somewhere that they are coming out with new models, and places such as Cabelas have the old on sale, but have not verified it. I do know that Wolf Tackle has in-stock models 20% off, free shipping over $100. Tell Glenn I sent you, he might even charge you more Just saw the part about the reel, while I prefer a slow/low gear ratio on cranks such as a 4.4:1 to a 5.1:1, I like to use a mid-fast ratio for spinnerbaits, such as a 5.1:1 up to a 6.1:1 or so. dbass Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 KB, When I slow roll my SB's over windy points, I like to pick up either my 6'6" or 7' Medium Heavy, fast or mod fast tip rod, depending on the distance I want to cast to. The GR I use for all of my spinnerbaits is 5.1:1, anything faster than that, and I start to get the bait rotating on retrieve. Tight Lines!!! Quote

justfishin Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 My personal favorite is a Team Allstar, 6'10" MH. I use a Abu Garcia 5601 C-3 reel and #15 to #17 test Big Game line for green bass. My smallie setup is a 6'6" Gator Rod in Medium action ( they run a little stiff ) and a Curado 201 reel with #12 BPS Excel line. Its the perfect spinnerbait setups---for me. Quote
djg77 Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I have been using a 6 foot 6 inch medium action bps tourney special combo for most of my spinnerbaits . and i really like it i've tried my spinnerbaits on some different combos. This has been working great for me in fact i caught my pb yesterday on it a 4 pounder. Quote

Shimano Calcutta CT50A Gear Ratio: 5:0.1 Berkley Big Game 15# Mean Green Funny, I use a 6' MF (Shakari) rod that I built and a Calcutta 50. Most people wouldn't like that combo I would think. I guess I'm not alone. I used to use a 6'6" M St Croix fiberglass rod that I built for cranks and top water, but I ended up giving that rod to a friend who really wanted it. If I'm fishing heavy cover, I'll still use a 6'6" (St Croix) MHF that I built with a Calcutta 100. Quote
