3125gauge Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I have been reading this forum for a year now and finally figured out how to post so here goes. I have experimented with every line imaginable. I fish small tournaments and have 9 baitcasting rods and reels (shimano citicas paired with g-loomis). I have used cajun redcast, trilene xl, trilene maxx, berkley trilene vanish flurocarbon, and seaguar invizx. ( I leave two rods/reels rigged up with 65Ib power pro braid) I tried the cajun redcast after reading Dodgeguy's posts about it. I really like it. It is the perfect monofiliment. I would use it exclusively, but I don't like the red color in the line. Does cajun make a line just like that except in a clear or green version? I also like trilene xl, but it is not very abrasion resistant. I hated the max it was unmanagable. I'm not real high on the vanish flurocarbon either. I just recently tried seaguar invizx. I like it but it is to expensive in my opinion. I liked the cajun redcast just as much, but I worry that fish can see that red line. I know that it is supposed to disappear at 3 feet depth but what if I fish shallow and deep in the same day? I have three other questions. 1. Do you guys think that in clear water (visibility of 2 feet or more) bass can see that red line? 2. Is there another monofiliment that cast really well, is limp, and strong like cajon red cast? 3. Any other suggestions are welcome. I just want to simplify my line choices and go with one brand and just put different pound tests on each one. Thanks in advance for replies. Quote
TrickyVT1887 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I use 3 lines on my baitcasters mono either P-Line CXX which is a tough abrasive copolymer, or Izorline mono both handle about the same and are tough strong lines with minimal stretch, personally i wouldn't touch cajun line with a 20ft pole tried it hated it too weak and not very manageable. As far as fluorocarbon goes i use seagar carbon pro or berkley vanish the blue box. In clear water or finesse fishing or T-Rig, C-Rig, Jigs its flouro or the P-Line all reaction or power fishing is Izorline or P-Line Quote
Taliesin Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 My preference is P-line CXX (moss-green. It's a very pale green), but I think you might find it too stiff (you specified a limp line). It's really strong, abrasion resistant, but a bit stiff compared to others at the same pound test. Also, I haven't found it in less than 15# test (I use the 15# on my mediums and 17# on my MH). I have heard the P-line CX isn't quite as stiff, but you loose some abrasion resistance and I fish around a lot of rocks. I haven't used it, but RoadWariror will probably recommend Yo-Zuri Hybrid line. I'm pretty sure it would fill your requirements, especially in the clear color. It's something I have been thinking about to replace my Power Pro braid (I don't like the visibility of Power Pro after the green leeches out). Line questions are always confusing, and every line will get good and bad reviews. You just have to try them yourself to see how they work for you. Power Pro and P-line work for me, but it's not the choice for some other people. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted August 22, 2007 Super User Posted August 22, 2007 Welcome aboard! If you have seen any of my posts over the last year or so, this will just sound the same: Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (11.9 lb test). Baitcasting: Original Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test). Both original formula and Ultra Soft are bonded (not coated) fluorocarbon/ nylon copolymers. Highly abrasion resistant, impervious to water and UV light, does not require a special knot and has very low memory is use (Ultra Soft has virtually none). Quote
Straiten_Hooks Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 You should give spiderwire XXX a try. This lines diameter is a bit thinner when it comes to normal line, so that should help with the limpness. It also has really low stretch for a mono. When it comes to floro all I use is segar, yeah its expensive but the low stretch give it so much sensitivity, its incredible. Its also unseen under water due to 100% floro. I use this for lots of my fishing, but stay away from top water when using this because the line sinks. Another good choice you can try is the SUFIX they came out with. This line is very smooth and really abrasion resistant., it handles great and has hardly any memory. Quote

I am very impressed with the performance of Siege and I have used it in 10, 12 and 20#. The way this mono resists the setting of memory is remarkable. THey have a smoke gray color and that is the one I use. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I like Yo-Zuri Hybrid as well and I also like Bass Pro XPS Flourocarbon. The Bass Pro flouro. works very well for me and it isn't extremely expensive (plus it faired pretty well in tackletour.com's flouro. report). The only mono I use is on my topwater rod (which I use the cajun red) and every thing else is the two lines I previously mentioned (plus Cabelas Ripcord Si Plus braid, but you are already set on your braid). 3125gauge Posted August 24, 2007 Author Posted August 24, 2007 Thanks for all of the replies guys. I appreciate it. I am going to try all suggestions because this is my tournament offseason and I plan on putting a different brand of line on all of my set ups and fish the same lures (jigs and worms) and see which one fits my style and preference. Again thanks and we are lucky to have a great forum like this where obsessive compulsive bass fisherman can waste time during the day! Quote
