surfer Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 While I know Vanish has a bad reputation for breaking easy my buddy didn't. We were out fishing yesterday and he hooked into a fish. He was reeling constantly and the drag was whining constantly for about a minute. I thought he just had his drag to light until I saw the fish roll at the surface. It was big. I cleared the deck for him and took over on the trolling motor while he continued the fight. The drag is still whining and he is still cranking. When the bass is 4 feet from the boat the drag finally silenced and the fish gave up. 5lbs 8oz on 6 lb Berkley Vanish. I was shocked. I guess that's testament to a good drag setting. Quote
Davis Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I too have had good luck with 4lb Vanish this year on my reel. Never had any breakage this year at all and I fished it in some heavy stuff because I didn't feel like re-spooling. Pulled a 4 1/2 pounder out with it. I have no complaints with the stuff. But I'm going to try the Segaur Invizx to see what the fuss is about around it. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 20, 2007 Super User Posted August 20, 2007 if you like vanish the invizx will make you think you died and went to heaven. Quote
Davis Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 if you like vanish the invizx will make you think you died and went to heaven. I'm not in love with the stuff but I was very impressed with pulling that big bass in with a gob of weeds all over his body. Thought the line might snap but it never gave. Was shocked to say the least. So if thats the case than your right........I will be in heaven. Quote
flyphisher # Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Nothing wrong with Vanish if you know how to use it.... I have experienced any problems with it that i havent had with other lines.... I kinda like it....plus its $8.00 cheaper Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 21, 2007 Super User Posted August 21, 2007 they named it vanish because that's what the fish on the end of it does!!! ;D Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I read on the pure fishing website which owns Berkely that when Vanish came on the market its purpose was to be a finesse line for finesse baits. Then anglers started using it for power techniqes which it was not designed for. So I use it sometimes for shaky head. Quote

I do a ton of finesse fishing. Quote
J_pontius Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I have been burned twice by vanish and fished with two guys this weekend at the northern divisional of BASS that were using vanish. One guy had 8lb test on and I will attest that he had a med light spinning rod, drag set light, and played the fish properly and as soon as they got there fish to the boat....bink....vanish. I said, let me guess, Vanish? I said, you might want to look into Seaguar. I have been using seaguar for 2 years now and this year I am using the invisx and I am extremely impressed. This company outdoes itself on there product. Granted a 1000yd spool is 70bucks and some change, but that will last most of my year of fishing and I know I won't have to worry when the big one counts. Just my .02 cents and something to think about. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 21, 2007 Super User Posted August 21, 2007 I fished the original formula, but will never try the "New" Vanish, regardless of how well it works for anyone else. Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 21, 2007 Super User Posted August 21, 2007 did you try invizx yet? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 21, 2007 Super User Posted August 21, 2007 Dodgeguy, No, but I am taking your advice and will spool some up soon. What pound test do you suggest for a baitcaster? Quote
