Okay so like I have said before. I'm going to go with the St. Croix premier. I was thinking 6'6" med for the rod. But now I'm wondering if I should go up to 7'.

I never fish from a boat. I'm usually fishing the Catt Creek (nice size creek, not too wide though), ponds, and some small lakes where shore fishing is available. Would the 6'6" be my best bet or with me being a big plastic guy should I just stick with a 7'? I have a 7 foot rod but its a cheapy so I don't really know if a more expensive rod has any greater benefits. I have fished with a 6'6" for most of this year and enjoyed it. But now getting a decent rod will the benefits be greater with size?

I do throw some cranks here and there but never have much luck with them. Also will throw a crawler or two in the creek for the heck of it.

I read the rod article and it was nice. But I would like some opinons for my situation. Thanks and have a blessed day guys.

Length is really just a matter of personal preference. There may be some slight advantages of one over another, but they are NOT significant. I do however STRONGLY suggest that you spend some time looking for a deal on an Avid rather than buying the Premier rod. St. Croix is introducing a new Avid series and the current models can be found for $80-$100.

Will do. I did want to look at an Avid but my price range is really at 100 dollars or so.

If I can find one close to that I will definately pick up the Avid. Thanks again.

I just saw a 6'6" MH Avid at Dick's Sporting Goods for $99.99.  It seemed like a nice rod, but I have no need for a rod right now.  You may want to goto your nearest Dick's (if you have one in you area) and check them out.

There is a Dicks only a half hour away so I will check it out.

Now leaving there without a couple bags of worms is very hard for me.

But if the wife is there she gives me the look and I can manage to get out with one bag.  ;D

Thanks again for the replies guys.

i fish from shore most all  of the time and i've used both 6'6" and 7' the 6'6" is much nicer for casting from the bank if their are any trees or low hanging brush but if the banks you fish are clear then i would recomend the 7' for the extra casting distince

Like RW says, it is a matter of personal choice and sometimes technique.

I do 50% of my fishing from shore and I use from 6.0 to 7.11, the shorter are better if you have to do a lot of walking and casting with obstacles but you loose casting distance.

Hey RW,

notice we have been agreeing alot lately?

As bass fisherman we have so much propaganda thrown at us, that we actually start to fuss over things, like the differences 6 inches of rod will make.  As if that mattered when compared with all the other significant factors that go into rod performance.

I also agree about finding an avid series rod.  BIG step up from the premiere.  I think Reeds has them on sale as well.

It seems like we're always on the same team. Havin' some different "favorites" ain't nothin'.
