Schaefer Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I'm going to be purchasing a new spinning set up soon, I'm actualy going to BPS tomorrow and will be getting a Pflueger President. The 2 rods I am contemplating between are the St Croix Avid and the Gloomis GL2, the GL2 is a little bit cheaper but Ive never actualy picked up a GL2. I would just like to know your opinions one these 2 rods. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 10, 2007 Super User Posted August 10, 2007 Both are equally good being the Avid more powerful than a GL2 of the same rating however not everybody likes or finds comfortable the hump grip found in the Avid ( I 'm one of them ) while the GL2 has a straight handle all the way from the reel seat down to the butt cap. Guest avid Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Raul nailed it. You definetly need to hold an avid. The ergonomic grip seems to be preferred by folks with larger hands. I don't have large hands, but I have two avid rods. A little sanding on the horizontal axis to bring the hump down to a better fit is my standard operating procedure. don't get carried away, but except for that one item of personal preference, I think the avid is a better rod. Super User FishTank Posted August 11, 2007 Super User Posted August 11, 2007 I would go for the Avid over the Loomis GL2 but if you want to spend a couple of extra bucks take a look at the Loomis IMX. Quote
Diablos Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Make sure to check out the Shimano Crucial rods. I was very impressed when I finally got to handle one. Quote
