insaneangler Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Ok I just got a new abu garcia 5500 c3 and it is spooled with mono and then mostly fireline on top. I also own a crappy old baitcaster that has mono on it. I can cast really well with it but not the garcia reel. Is this due to the fireline or just because I dont have enough practice? I have the brake wide open on the crappy one but the brake set normally on the garcia. It seems like on the garcia the line just flys under my finger and there is no stopping it. :-[ Any suggestions? :'( Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 If it's backlashing tighten the brake if it just won't cast real far then loosen it. Quote
Sean_e_bus_21 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Welcme to the forums......... i found that working worms on a spinning reel jams up andknots up on me so that was my experince with fireline so now i use powerpro Sean Quote
michbass Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I think fireline seems harder too cast than some of the other braids. Havent fount a light briad I really like yet though. Braid is easier to clean up a backlash though. I am pretty new to braid so cant say much, like power pro and suffix but havent tried either is like a 10lb. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 11, 2007 Super User Posted August 11, 2007 i didnt even know that fireline was braid i just got some powerpro for my new shimano citica, and it works just fine. i also like the fact that its 50lb test but only 12lb diameter. i got the worst backlash of my life w/ it though, totally my stupid fault too....i hit a tree on the forward thrust of my cast : ;D took me about an hour and a half to take the backlash out. i found that mono is easier to clean up backlashes w/, but on mono, backlashes will leave nasty little kinks in your line, braid wont do that. Pigsticker Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 fireline isnt braid it has the same qualities but it is a single line. In my opinion it is better for spinning reels. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 11, 2007 Super User Posted August 11, 2007 There 's a very simple explanation to your problem, you can control the spool rotation on your crappy reel, right ?, well you can control it because crappy reel has crappy rotation control and crappy spool supporting brearings so the spool rotates at a much slower rate so controling the spool rotation is easier. But the Abu has more modern technology, better rotation control and better bearings so the spool spins a lot faster than the one on the crappy reel, since it spins faster you can 't control it ----> solution: you need more practice and to tighten the braking so the spool rotates at the speed it does in the crappy reel. Off subject but have you ever tried the powerpro 15lb? Like the 50lb but looking for a lighter line for different apps? Quote
insaneangler Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 actually ive played around and set the brake pretty tight and now I can cast it but not very far, I need alot more pactice :-[ Quote
