Has anyone heard when the newly redesigned St. Croix Avid series rods will be available.  I have been holding off on a new one since hearing about the redesign on tackle tour.

Thanks.

Was this an online article?  If so, can you please post the link to it.  I have bought 3 so far this year because the place I got them from was buy one rod get a 50 dollar gift card. So instead of 160-180 I was getting them for 110-130  :)  The deal is over but I still have a gift card and I was going to purchase another one soon.

Talked with St.Croix, and my blank distributor.

No one seems to know when the new avid will hit stores, I would assume by the 08 season. The one thing that bringing the Avid blank up to a new standard with the ART and IPC® technology, it is definitely going to raise the MSRP up a couple of notches. But as a rod builder I can hardly wait to see the new blank.

Can't wait till these things come out.  I hope they have redone the handle on the baitcasters.  I purchased one last year and did not care for it at all (hated the hump).  I returned it. But I later purchased two of the spinning versions and they are both remarkable rods for the money.

I assume you are talking about the cork on the casting Avids, because I love the grips on the spinning ones.  I really love the cork on the back of the reel seat.  Anyway, here is the link.

Do you really think the price is going to go up that much.  I really doubt it, after seeing the redesign of the Premiere rods and how St. Croix managed to keep the price point the same.  It also doesn't make much sense from a business perspective as the Avids would canabalize their Legend Tournament line.

But to be honest, Avids are probably the best bang for the buck where fishing rods are concerned.

As a rod builder building exclusively on St Croix® blanks. Yes I do.

I don't think that your going to get the SC3 graphite and the ART & IPC technology for nothing. That and I don't think that they are cannibalizing anything in the upper lines. The too will go up in price with the split grips, none of these changes are going to leave the MSRP the same for any of the lines. The only reason they were able to keep the Premiere® price points down when they revamped them is that they switched over to the Batson Ent. line of components for them when the Triumph line came out.

The Avid series is actually the beginning point for Fuji® components on their SC3 and upper end lines...

One thing you will notice is that all of the upper end rods with the new split grips, the grips will all be one size. Meaning if you have small hands they might fit just right for you, but if you have large hands your left wanting more grip at the back of the seat. They may have finally copied the custom builders way of building but they cannot take the time to turn grips that will properly fit each angler.

Cant wait for the new tournament and avids to hit the market to be able to see and hold them in person. They look nice. I think the hump on the handle, fits my claws great.

I just picked up 2 Avids 1 spinning and 1 baitasting. Dicks had them on sale for $99 ;D So I couldnt pass that up. If you have a Dicks near by worth checking it out.

I too went to Dicks today and saw they had several items clearenced, including all Shimano Stradics and St. Croix Avid rods.  Give them some time and they will mark them down either 25% or 50% off the clearance price.  That's right, at some point this year the old Avids will be $50 and so to will the Stradics, if there are any left by that time. ;D
