BigBassBob Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 I just picked-up a baitcasting reel http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/23000003/Images/5/010205991195.jpg(first one, always used spincasting). My question is...what is a good length pole to use with it (fishing off the bank)? Quote
New Bass Man Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I'd say 7 foot. From the bank, you need something that will get your bait out there. I also like a 6'6 rod too. I think you'd be happy with a 7 footer. Quote
moby bass Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Well, I currently have 3 baitcasting reels, all on rods 6'6". 1 M and 2 M/H. The M and 1 M/H are Quantums, from WalMart. They are quite nice, I think, although far from being top of the line. The other is a MH from Dicks that I purchased for my son to learn bc but he hasn't got the hang of it, so I sort of use it. I fish mostly from the bank and this length works well for me, overall, for crigs, senkos, spinners, buzzbaits, etc. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 6, 2007 Super User Posted August 6, 2007 6'6" ROD in medium or medium heavy action. Quote
BigBassBob Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 OK...thanks. I have a 6'6" medium action. I'll try that one Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 6, 2007 Super User Posted August 6, 2007 The length doesn't really matter, it's just personal preference. Your rod is probably Medium Power/ Fast Action which is fine. Down the road you may want to add another rod with Moderate Action which is a little more forgiving when fishing treble hook lures.
