shogun Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Hi - I am comparing a Gloomis IMX between a Fenwick HMG series rod. Both are 6' spinning rods, MH action. The Gloomis model is SJR723S and goes for $220, and Fenwick model is GS60MH, and goes for $100. I picked up both rods in the store, and they feel equally good to me. I plan to use to rod as my primary rod for all different types of bass fishing. Question is, does the cost delta on the Gloomis really justify itself? The Fenwick really feels great, but I know many who swear by Gloomis rods over all others. Looking for honest opinions for folks who have used both rods - the IMX from Gloomis and HMG from Fenwick. Super User Jig Man Posted July 30, 2007 Super User Posted July 30, 2007 I have 5 Fenwick HMG spinning rods and 2 HMG casting rods. I think they are very good rods. I have been fishing them for the past 10 years. I have 3 Gloomis spinning rods and 4 Gloomis casting rods. The main difference I see in the two brands is the Gloomis rods don't weigh as much so, with my carpal tunnel, I can fish them longer. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 30, 2007 Super User Posted July 30, 2007 I have lots of Fenwick rods, and while I feel they are probably one of the best "bangs" for the buck, the Loomis rods (especialy the IMX and GLX) are really in a class all there own. If you want a high end rod, for a good price go with the Fenwick, if you want the Best of the Best go with the Loomis. Quote

That said, I did just buy an HMG this morning (needed a new worm rod fast). They are nice and seem to be decently crafted. I've not had any trouble with any of my other Fenwick products. Quote
Guest avid Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Fenwick is a great rod, and if you said, you were gonna put in the trunk of your car, for those impulsive little fishing stops I would not hesitate to say get it. But when you get to the IMX class Loomis, your playing in the big leagues. Is it worth it? Well, value is subjective, so only you can answer that question. Is it more sensitive and have better components? absolutely. Quote

If you want to spend the money, the G.Loomis is the better rod and you will fish it the rest of your life. Otherwise, I'm sure you will like the Fenwick, but one day you'll still buy a Loomis. If you buy the G.Loomis, your Fenwick days are over. Quote
